Okay. For a start Townsend is not central midfielder and in my opnion has never displayed the ability to play there.

Why do you think Walker can play on the wing? Please don't tell me it's because he is quick?

The same reason I suggested Bale should play RW rather than RB, he does well going forward and while I prefer Lennon I think Walker can do just as well as he does now if needed. I'd argue that his crossing is better.

Really. I think it's a myth that Walker is good going forward. He is quick but he doesn't have the technique to dribble past players running from full back. He definitely won't have the technical skills to go past players from the tight situations he would experience on the wing.

So can you explain why Townsend should play in a midfield 2 with Huddlestone...?

Apparently, some fire engines turned up at AVB's house a few moments ago, as someone called the emergency services after seeing smoke. And when the fireman broke into the house, they saw AVB furiously writing in a note pad on the kitchen, with high quantities of smoke bellowing from his head.

Not sure what was going on, but they put a wet blanket around his head to stop it from over heating and cool it down a bit, before checking the rest of the property for people who may be suffering from smoke inhalation.

But they did say we should be ok for Thursday, AVB knows what he is doing, but the wife just wishes he would play with her as much as be plays with his pen and that note book... and stopped smoking the fucking house out.

Really like the recent quotes. Have heard rumours that Mason is prepared to leave us for good in January so I'd love to see him get some minutes if he is as talented as people say, so that we can keep him at the club.

I was going to hit disagree but that's just lazy. However, to my mind, you almost deserve the neg rep because that's a pretty misguided opinion; you only have to look at the way he beat two defenders against Reading for the assist to GB. Walker has consistently shown his ability at pushing on past opposition fullbacks - his runs alone are an attacking threat because they create space for our right winger. Apologies for the under-developed points - got to get back to work before the boss catches me.

I think playing a strong team helps us in PL terms and in our goal of winning the Europa League.

We have so many new players, and we're trying to adapt to a new philosophy, both in terms of tactics and coaching, and the best way to do this is by playing competitive football.

We also have strong players, currently injured, to come in later in the autumn and to allow AVB to rotate then.

Plus, it's easier to rotate a team with an established playing style.

For these reasons:

Lloris
Walker Caulker Vertonghen Naughton
Sandro Dembele
Dempsey Siggurdson Bale
Defoe

Ummed and ahhed over the front four, and wouldn't be unhappy with any combo which put Lennon in for one of the others. Also think the positions the front 3 occupy is up for grabs. Wouldn't be unhappy if Thudd started too.

Against Reading was the FIRST time i've seen him take it past a player without losing the ball. His technique is poor to average at best and this is running from full back. Playing on the wing he would be marked alot tighter and have to start get past players from a standing start which he hasn't got the ability to do in my opinion.

"Against Lazio in the Europa League tonight, junior team graduates Steven Caulker and Andros Townsend will hope to play a significant role, while Jake Livermore, who failed to establish himself under Redknapp, is likely to get another chance to shine after impressing Villas-Boas during the summer."

Erm i think they got a bit wrong.... didnt he play a lot for 'Arry last year?

sorry mate, that's simply wrong. I'm genuinely not sure if you're joking or not.

i don't disagree with this part -

whenever he's at a stand-still, he does a bunch of weird stepovers and either passes the ball back or loses it.

I'm not joking.

Tell me an instance when he has dribbled past a player and crossed or passed the ball. BAE does this constantly througout a match.

Walker normally stops controls the ball and passes or runs forward like a headless chicken and is easily dispossessed.

I'm saying I don't rate Walker but he does not have the skillset to play as a right midfielder/winger/wing forward

I'd try Dempsey, Townsend, Bale, Dembele, Sigurdsson before I'd even consider Walker. He has not got a great amount of skills in his locker, however dribbling while running at a fast pace he is very good at, which some people on here are struggling to differentiate between. Therefore I would not fancy him as a right winger, he'd keep passing it backwards.

go to about 30 seconds in. Not the best video for showing clips of this, but he does it all the time.

For the record, I agree about from standing most of the time, and don't think he could play right wing effectively. However he is good at driving forward.

I agree with much of that.

It's not the first time, but it is an extremely rare occurrence that he actually beats his man with skill, and even at the start of that move he nearly tripped over the ball and miss controlled it, which I have seen him do countless times when in similar positions.

His contribution to our general creativity and attacking has been absolutely minimal for someone who is not really there because they are great defensively.

Rebrab, that vid re-enforces Justinsignal's point. That is pretty much his highlight reel, and pointing at two or three examples of something and saying "he does that all the time" doesn't make it valid. The fact is he doesn't. He had the grand total of one goal assist in the whole of last season. Does that suggest a player that does it all the time ? The video of him getting the ball and trying and failing to beat his man and get a decent ball in or even miscontrolling it would be much longer and be more justified in saying "he does that all the time".
