Whatever the formation it's gonna be harder than Watford. The other thing is my wife is life long Liverpool fan and where we differ. If Spurs win I have to get my own Tea !!

the big difference is Watford play with muscle, Liverpool play with pace. the only real worry being VVD on set pieces, but need to get the 1st goal, and avoid conceding. they do most of their hard graft in the 1st half, and slack in the 2nd unless playing dross wet spam when you don't need to use anything but clever football to win

If not mentioned Sanchez is playing for Colombia in USA 1.30 weds AM which likely with jet lag would rule him out and a back 3. Firminio and Alisson are in same situation.

well we will need to take advantage of their jet lag as I very much doubt Klopp will start without Alisson and Firmino

All three of Eriksen, Dele and Kane need to be shown they are not undropable when they are playing like shit. If Son isn't fit, I would even consider playing N'Koudu or Skipp before Dele.

Trippier ........ Toby ....... Jan ........ Rose

Moura ............. Lamela ................. Son

I don't disagree at all that we need to show Dele he doesn't just get to show up and have a spot in the 11 but dropping him for Nkoudou or Skipp is moronic.

4-2-3-1 is easily our best set up considering the players we have at our disposal. I don't even see why it's even being debated personally.

Hugo

Trips Toby Jan Davies

Dembele Winks

Moura Eriksen Dele

Kane

There are positions in there where I feel it makes little difference who plays as long as we use that system. Dier/ Vic in for Dembel/Winks or Son/Lamela in for Eriksen/Dele for example. The key is the formation far more than who is asked to play the roles.

2 up top pushes Eriksen, Dele and Kane deeper and just isn't working, as their defensive game in that area just isn't strong enough. The only time we should ever play 5 at the back is if the game plan is to sit deep and counter but even then it should be 5-2-3/5-2-2-1. I never want to see us play 5-3-2 again especially when the three in the middle contains Eriksen and Dele. It totally negates their natural games and stops them affecting the game where they are at their most dangerous., ie in and around the opponents box.
Bang on.
Your team is slightly different to mine but I'd be more than happy with that. Same with the @bubble07 team.
I know we have to rotate players etc BUT I still think you should go into every game like its a cup final and you HAVE to win it.
With that in mind would anyone anywhere have come up with that line up/formation we saw against Watford?Like the pundits said regarding Man U's formation the weekend before, NOBODY is gonna pick that 11 in that shape.
Annoying :(

if it wasn't for the fact Sanchez will be travelling back late, if we was to play a back 4, I would have him in place of Toby. Sanchez seems to struggle with the bullies in the game, but Liverpool don't play that way, it's all about pace with them, and on the ground Sanchez is faster than Toby.

the worrying thing is also in a back 4 against pace, Trippier isn't the best body to have, but when you consider the erratic Aurier I think Poch might have to go with a back 5 and hope Sanchez is available. if Wanyama isn't fit Dier has to step in, we can't afford to use the same tat-tic v pool, I think Dembele with Dier providing he doesn't feature much for Belgium with Wink on standby, though with both Winks and Wanyama's lack of match fitness I will be worried if they both start.

to be totally honest I think I'm just going to sit back and just read this thread, and only contribute my views on others teams, because even with 3 wins out of 4 without playing exceptionally well for 90 mins yet, I really haven't got a clue what I think our best XI or formation is for this:(

I'm going 4-3-3

LLoris
Trippier Alder Vert Rose
Wanyama/Dier (either)
Eriksen Lamela
Moura Kane Dele

Dele gets ronaldo type role where his job is to make runs and get into the box. Kane further forward and not dropping deep and actually being the focal point. Moura on the wing, granted he won't get as much freedom as he is so far but I think it's better balance.

For me aswell Eriksen and Lamela combined do enough running to compliment Dier, Lamela centrally has always looked great for us and I'd like to get him in the team. Alternatively we could put winks in so that Dier can slot into a back 3 when our fullbacks press up to give us some in-game fluidity in the formation but I'd prefer this more attacking option.

This is just SILLY.

Kane has 2 goals and 1 assist in 4 games. But to be fair that is below his utterly outrageous stat of 110 goals in 157 Premier League games .

I know, but if we want Kane at his best then he needs to be rested a little bit. Okay, maybe not against Liverpool haha, but at the time of writing that post I was still feeling pretty upset about our performance at Watford.

Lloris
Trippier Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Dier Winks
Lamela Dele Lucas
Son

Vorm, Sanchez, KWP, Wanyama, Dembele, Eriksen, Kane

Never gonna happen but i’d like it to. Eriksen needs a kick up the arse. And Kane hasnt been the Kane we know and love(for quite some time, actually). He needs resting and a kick up the arse.
Now that we’re a week gone after watford...

Lloris
Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen
Trippier Dier Winks Rose
Eriksen Dele
Kane

Vorm, KWP, Wanyama, Dembele, Moura, Lamela, Son

If you want to start Moura, we can move Eriksen deeper and have Winks on the bench. Now that everyone seems fit and back with the team, i think more than 1 defender on the bench when starting 5 is overkill so Aurier and Davies miss out as Son and Lamela have to be available to us when fit. If an emergency arises at the back, KWP can slot in at either FB position while Davies and Aurier probably cant and Dier can move to CB which covers all our bases. So i think KWP is a better option.

Still feel Eriksen needs a kick up the rear and Kane needs a rest but Liverpool really isn’t the game to do this.

I'm kinda grateful for this one, tbh. It gives more time for Lamela and Son to recover.

In hindsight yeah youre right but its just dull the intl breaks especially friendlies which in essence these are

I thought Aurier was our left back a couple of times, in fact he played LB v them last season. Sanchez might not be risked due to late fligh back from Columbia

I agree with the sentiment that no player is too big to be dropped but Dele's been one of our better performers this season, he's been far better than he was the majority of last year at least.

If anyone's facing a trip to the subs bench it's Kane, who put in one of the worst all round performances ive seen him give against Spain and hasn't looked up to much since his injury last season. That said I think Son is probably even more in need of a break and Lamela's just returning from injury, so for me Kane makes the 11 but another 5/10 performance and he simply has to be benched for the good of the team and of himself (not that Poch will ever have the bollocks to do it).

Rose has earned a start, he looked bright when he came on for Shaw, hopefully he continues his form if he's played again on Tuesday. Really will be huge for us if he can regain his previous form.

Hoping Winks is fit and we can play him at the base of a midfield 3 with Eriksen and Alli like we did last year to great effect vs Liverpool and Real. Dembele doesn't have the legs, Dier doesn't fit the role, and Wanyama isn't fit enough. If that's a no goer then either a diamond or a Dier/Dembele pivot please, not sure I can handle seeing our midfield as bare as it was against Watford and at times against Fulham and United.

So, dependant on Winks' fitness : 3-5-2

Tripps - Toby - Sanchez - Jan - Rose
Dele - Winks - Eriksen
Moura - Kane

Dele was our best player over the first 3 games. Lots of them had shockers versus Watford.
