Are people really serious about playing Adebayor this side of Xmas? Maybe on the bench, but I doubt his committment to our club matches that of some of our deluded fans committment to him.

I'm looking at your suggested team and subs for Newcastle. Did you take into account this is a quarter final against an in form EPL team we lost to at home a few weeks ago ?
Yes. Im putting more weight on the fact its our last chance to play youngsters for a bit and if we give them real time now, maybe we'll find someone who should be playing wuth the team, especially in this busy period. Plus its a good match to give first teamers a bit of a rest before a slate of 6 games in 2 weeks.

I would have to disagree. If anything I would rather play a weakened team against Burnley. Let's go flat out to reach the semis. Doesn't sound like you take this competition seriously !

Many people will disagree, but I think it's time for Mason and Bentaleb to both sit out the two upcoming fixtures. We have 4 talented midfielders that deserve a chance to showcase themselves and neither Mason or Bentaleb have shown themselves so superior as part of a CM2, that they're undroppable at this stage. I'd opt for Capoue and Paulinho in the Newcastle game and come back with Dembele and Stambouli, who were excellent against Swansea, for Burnley.

For Newcastle, I'd go:

Vorm

Chiriches Dier Kaboul Rose

Capoue Paulinho

Lennon Lamela Chadli

Soldado

I'd use Townsend exclusively as an impact substitute in this game.

For Burnley, I'd opt for:

Lloris

Walker Fazio Vertonghen Davies

Stambouli Dembele

Lamela Eriksen Chadli

Kane

Apart from lamela I'd agree with both sides. Amazing how many of my friends and colleagues have called a text to say they can't believe how bad lamela is! I've been defending him since he arrived, not sure I can anymore. He needs to sit this one out

The Newcastle game is helluva lot more important than the Burnley game.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded.

We can get into the semis of a cup and have potential opponents from Championship and League One standing between us and a trophy. Even if the opponents are Southampton, Liverpool or Chelsea, we have two legs, in fact, we should be able to beat 6 of the 7 teams over two legs, and luck it out against Chelsea with the right game plan, so to rest players so they can play against Burnley is ridiculous. We have another 6 days between that game and Leicester City.

Anyone who thinks we are going to be nailed on for fourth with double the amount of teams competing for the position this year and us being generally haphazard and clueless needs a real wake up call. So, with that in mind, dropping points against Burnley is acceptable if we really need to choose between that game and this. We don't drop points here, we go straight out, do people not understand?

And yeah, our second team has been wretched, but it's not like they are going to get spanked by fecking Burnley.

As others have said, it seems people still think it's 2011.

Times have changed. We maybe 4 points off fourth place, but we are not good enough to just dismiss the quarter finals of the Carling Cup so arrogantly.

We've got no chance of 4th, will be lucky to be top six and are no danger of going down so we should be taking this very seriously.

Strongest team please, with the exception of Walker who needs protecting.

No, I know Lloris is overall a better keeper than Vorm, you said "We need the best keeper or we go out". So your saying if Vorm plays instead of Lloris, we will definately go out. I disagree.

Well Lloris continualy makes saves that no keeper should be able to make so not having him in goal against an inform Newcastle it just smells disaster.

Capoue, Paulinho and (especially) Dembele have had plenty of chances to showcase themselves. Mason & Bentaleb have the shirts on merit.

This is easily our best chance of winning something this year (including the 4th place cup) so strongest team available for me and rest those who need it vs burnley

What 'merit. is that exactly? v Swansea they could hardly get a sniff of the ball. Mason in particular coughed up possession and Bentaleb, whilst very neat and tidy with the ball didn't create diddly-squat. We need a ball winner in the middle of the park and that isn't Mason or Bentaleb

We risk running some of our other guys (Kane) into the ground, and this time last year was the start of a great period for Ade. I think it's important we get him involved, because we're going to have to use him at some point, we can't expect a 21 year old in his breakthrough season to run the miles he is in every single match.

Must win game in my opinion. This is a real chance of winning a trophy where we need to gather some momentum during this overbearing winter period. That saying I wouldn't put out our strongest XI but utilise the talent we have.

The team I would choose is:

Lloris/Vorm

Chiriches Fazio/Dier Vertonghen Rose

Lennon Dembele Stambouli Townsend

Chadli/Lamela

Soldado

if Lamela play 4-3-3 attacking, 4-4-1-1 defensive, where Lamela drops back to create a 3 in midfield, being the 'playmaker' pushing Lennon and Townsend in a wide front three alongside Soldado.

If Chadli plays then would most likely look at sticking with a ridged 4-4-1-1/4-4-2, utilising the width and getting our full backs/wingers whipping in crosses.

Vorm
Chiriches Dier Ball Rose
Dembele Mason
Ceballos Chadli Townsend
Soldado

Onomah and Winks to come on at 60 or at half. I'd rather see the youngsters and keep the important first teamers at least somewhat fresh for the next two weeks where we have 6 games in 2 weeks

Mad as a box of frogs.
