I think we need some perspective here. This really should be a game where we get all three points. Southampton have only won 1 out of their last 7 league games. They lost to the likes of Villa at home, so, on paper, their talent really isn't on par with ours.

Now, the way for Sherwood to even the playing field is to incorporate players in exceptionally poor form into our starting XI. Lennon and Defoe don't have any goals or assists in league play this season, so there is no argument for either of their inclusion if we want to actually score goals in this game.

We'll get a really good sense if that "British Core" speculation was potentially true once we see the line-ups.

Yea but you have to look at the fixtures they've had too, Stoke, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle away with City, Villa and Hull at home. Arsenal and Chelsea away they wouldn't expect to get anything from plus Stoke and Newcastle are tough trips, Chelsea have lost at both of those grounds and at least Saints got a point at them still. Hull they beat convincingly whilst noting that we massively struggled against them, twice and they did lose to Villa, which was a poor result but they also battered them that game, I think Villa only had 3 shots on target and they were all goals.

I didn't know they'd only one win from 7 games, which isn't great but they shouldn't be underestimated at all, I'd be shocked if this wasn't going to be a tough tough game. And you can't really use the whole 'on paper' theory because we're better than most teams in the league on paper yet you wouldn't think it a lot of the time. I really wish I was as confident as you mind.

One thing that I do think is in our favour mind is that minus the City game, our away form has been pretty damn good so that's a plus.

Time to wheel out the 3-5-2 I reckon. When everyone is fit I think we have the perfect players for it. But for Sunday (not quite perfect);

Hugo
Dawson-Vlad-fryers
Walker--------------------rose
Capoue---Dembele
Lamela
Ade---Soldier

shooting from the hip....

lloris
walker dawson chiriches rose
capoue dembele
lamela adebayor chadli
soldado

eriksen not match fit, so sub on later. holtby on for dembele (hip) around the 65th minute... tough with no paulinho, no sandro, no townsend, and no vertonghen...

I only picked chadli since he has some match fitness, but not likely ade wil go 90 min and maybe eriksen will get a look in?.... if ade goes out, then maybe chadli slides into #10 spot for a bit? 6s and 7s...

why take off a midfielder just to play fryers? I don't see that improves the starting 11,... just sayin' :mask:

Lloris
Chiriches___ Dawson
Walker_________Capoue_________Rose
Eriksen_______Dembele
Lamela
Adebayor____Soldado

If we're going 2 up front then I definitely wouldn't be against this. Walker and Rose would have no trouble getting down the flanks. Solid in the middle with goal threats up front with Eriksen setting the tempo.

I just hope Tim and the gang are thinking outside the box a bit and we don't line up with a straight lines 442 as we did on Weds.

Chadli ---------- Soldado ---------- Lamela

Eriksen ----------------- Holtby
Capoue

Rose ----- Vlad ----- Dawson ----- Walker

Lloris

Subs: Freidel, Fredricks, Fryers, Dembele, Siggy, Kane, Ade

Chances of it happening... Zero, got more chance of the Queen snowballing my cum shot with Miley Cyres than TS actually picking a progressive team and utilizing our best players effectively.

Probably going to see

Ade ----- Defoe

Chadli ---- Siggy ---- Dembele ---- Lennon

Rose ---- Vlad ---- Dawson ---- Walker

Lloris

We are just basically fucked, TS will not be able to think out side the box and laughing stoke of PL will lose yet another game.

I agree with SS57 that an Adebayor/Soldado combination may be vital but I don't think Adebayor has the discipline to fill one of those wide positions, especially with Saints' overlapping fullbacks. I'm just not sure if this is the game to have the two together. Maybe something like a 4-4-1-1 though, more like:

Lloris

Walker Dawson Chriches Rose

Lennon Capoue Dembele Chadli

Adebayor

Soldado

I'm not sure he has either, but he does seem to end up wide quite often and he is capable of whipping in a cross. I think he's got to play simply on the grounds that we're desperately short of goals and I can't see who's likely to supply them, other than Ade and Soldado. Either we go with a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1, or a 4-3-3, even if it's a somewhat bastardised one—although SK's sort-of-3-5-2 is quite appealing as well.

We also seem uncertain as to who's actually 100% fit.

Lloris

Walker. Daws. Chiriches Rose

Lennon Dembele Holtby Sig

Ade. Soldado

Service in to the middle will be strong, Ade holding up and feeding Soldado. Holtbys hard work and pace to match shaw and Lallana. I'd start with this and have lamela and Capoue in mind in case it's not working

If we go 442 flat again, we're screwed. Siggy on the left would be suicide and leave us with Rose manning the left and Dembele, Holtby and Siggy in the middle.

I disagree. Players should have discipline, and Sig always puts a shift in. Although I agree he will cut in naturally, his passing ability is catered to having big and strong strikers like Ade and Soldado to aim at. Rose can overlap and holtby/chiriches can be alert to covering.

If we play Defoe, maybe. Ade and Soldado could provide the serious firepower we've been crying out for since August.
