We never play 433 and yet people are going with Bentaleb, Mason and Delle Alli. That's closer to championship level than top four...

They don't care. Obsessed with it for some reason.

Absolutely ridiculous the amount of people who want Bentaleb dropped after one, albeit awful, performance in the first game of the season.
Competition for places is a must.

Poch has to send a message to the squad that performances like Nabil's on the weekend is unacceptable.

Kane
Eriksen ---------------------- Lamela
Carroll
Mason ---- Bentaleb
Rose -- Vertonghen - Alderwiereld -- Walker
Lloris
All should be in for Bentaleb but I don't think it will happen and I don't think he is ready to be in a CM2, that said he has performed better than the others, and who is suited to the CM2? so why not

I don't see Poch making too many changes as we are only 1 game in but I do think as we are at home and Stoke under Hughes will try to play a bit more (than the Stoke over a few seasons ago) we might go for a slightly more attacking lineup (well a lineup with the optimum stamina and speed to get up and down the pitch a lot).

GK - Lloris (c)

LB - Rose
LCB - Vertonghen
RCB - Alderweireld
RB - Walker

LCM - Bentaleb
RCM - Alli

LAM - Chadli
AM - Eriksen
RAM - Dembele

CF - Kane

I know we lost against Man Utd but I don't think we did that bad considering it was the first game of the season and we were away to a team in last years top 4.

If Hugo's hand is still not 100% then Vorm will be in goal and if Rose is still not fit then Davies can go in.

In my defence I've wanted him dropped for roughly 18 months :D

You may think I'm wrong but please don't call me fickle, guy just isn't my cuppa tea.

On an absolutely unrelated note, I quite like the idea of 352 with our players, but then I've always felt it was a formation that would succeed with the right personnel. The catch with me, given his proficiency in the air, his strength, and his signs of being far better defensively than offensively, is that I'd have Walker as an RCB as when we attack the CBs need to split into being FBs anyway:

Lloris
Alderweireld
Walker Vertonghen
Trippier .............................. Rose
Mason Alli
Eriksen
New CF Kane

With a reserve of:

Vorm
Fazio
Dier Wimmer
Yedlin .............................. Davies
Winks Bentaleb
Pritchard
Lamela Chadli

Both sweepers are players with a good reading of the game and experience in midfield, as well as a decent pass, so could be trusted to bring the ball out of defence. Both LCB's and RCB's have plenty of full back experience to be able to split when the wing backs bomb forward. Both sets of CMs lack much defensive nouse but enjoy high levels of technique and athleticism and speed of moving the ball on, plus would be less responsible for the defence with the presence of three behind them. The AMC would be free to find whichever pockets of space he prefers to try and knit the game together. He could go wherever the ball was left eight or centre to take responsibility and combine with either wingback in doubling up on their marker. And the front line, one man with strength and techniques to play a bit further forward and bully defenders, be an outlet and hold up the ball, one quicker player to make runs and attack from a touch deeper/ combine with both the target man and the ACM as well as overload the opposition box when the ball is out wide.

But, see as this has a cat in hells chance of happening, I'll plump for:

Lloris
Walker Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Mason Alli
NewFW Eriksen Chadli
Kane

With the obvious caveat that Hugo and Rose are fit and sign a forward by the match. Otherwise give Carroll, Pritchard or Onomah a crack and adapt Eriksen and Chadli accordingly.

You're not alone on this at all. Interesting that you have Walker in the back three. You could also play Davies in the three also.

I suggested playing 343 as you could play 2 of Lamela/Eriksen/Chadli/Pritchard all centrally behind Kane.

Whilst I don't generally like knee jerk reactions to one bad game I really think that Poch could do with sending out a message that performances like the one Nabil gave on Saturday will not be tolerated. Unfortunately though given that he point blank refused to drop Chadli and Eriksen after a string of dire performances last season I wont hold my breath on this one. Only change I can foresee is Hugo for Vorm.

This is more of a hope than a prediction although some players don't deserve to be dropped (e.g. Walker)

Lloris
Trippier...Toby...Jan...Rose
Dier.....Alli
Dembele.....Carroll.....Eriksen
Kane

Subs: Vorm, Walker, Fazio, Alli, Mason, Lamela, Chadli

Rose - Verts - Alds - Walker

Davies of course for Rose if not ready yet, Lamela for Townsend if not ready yet. Stoke is a side to use pace against, as it's best to find a way to get past them before they congeal and set up. Pressing also isn't quite as useful, so I'm not preoccupied with what Lamela offers, plus I think he gets more easily frustrated in the more physical games. Dembele offers more strength for the middle, Mason gives us more fire and more movement.

If it gets late and we need a goal (as is very likely), I'd love to see Pritch given a go, see if the lugs could contain such agility and quick feet coupled with wit. We lack gamewinners off the bench as is, so it's not as if it'd be to any tangible harm to give Pritch a try vs any other option we could throw on late (barring any signings being made).
