If we are to persist with 442 then i'd like to see more of a diamond in midfield and the width provided by Walker and Rose;

Lloris

Walker Chiriches Vertonghen Rose

Sandro

Dembele Paulinho

Eriksen

Soldado Adebayor
If just Ade up front;

Sandro Dembele
Paulinho

Lennon Adebayor Eriksen

I'd roll with your second option, definitely.

It's funny, i'm trying to fit certain players in I like such as Townsend and yet I can't without it compromising balance or playing people out of position.

Will be doubly difficult if Lamela gets a head of steam and displays some of his potential!

Hard choices for Sherwood in fairness in terms of rotation and whilst picking an eleven will be hard, picking the subs isn't an easy choice either and there will be speculation over whoever doesn't feature in that match day squad.

Good problems to have, but a problem nevertheless.

4411 for me

Lloris
Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose
Lennon, Bentaleb, Dembele, Paulhino
Eriksen
Adebayor

Bench : Freidel, Naughton, Chirches, Capoue, Townsend, Soldado, Defoe or Kane

Missing Out : Kaboul (needs more freindlied before start), Sandro (As Kaboul), Capoue, Holtby, Lamela (if fit), Sigurdsson, Chadli

Strong squad when you look at the list of those missing out,

First 'big' game since we got smashed by Liverpool. Man Utd were dreadful. Will really need a DM of either Sandro or Capoue to protect back 4. Swansea waltzed straight through the middle for the fist 20 minutes, and if we repeat that v City we'll be 3 down in no time. Don't know if Sandro will be fit and doubt Sherwood is man enough to give Capoue a game. We'll see, but if we start with Dembele and Bentaleb in the middle I think we're in trouble.

Even though I didn't pick Bentaleb, it certainly wouldn't dismay me to see him start, even if Paulinho and Sandro are declared fit.

Just think we have to be a bit smart in how we utilise him, especially in light of senior established players back to fitness. He seems a genuine bona-fide talent and I really like what we brings with his efficiency and simplistic approach but playing him non-stop might not be the best recipe going forward for his long term development.

difficult to pick a side. i'd say certs are

lloris
walker
rose
dembele
lennon
eriksen
adebayor

then two from dawson/chiriches/vertonghen

and probably two from sandro/bentaleb/paulinho/soldado depending on what kind of team tim goes for.

I'm not sure 4-4-2 is a good idea against Man City. Considering the result they got against Swansea, I'd go with the 4-5-1/4-3-3/4-2-3-1 formation again - I wouldn't make a habit out of it though.

Lloris

Walker Dawson Chiriches Rose

Sandro Dembele

Lennon Eriksen Townsend

Adebayor
It's difficult to really engage though how fit Vertonghen, Paulinho, Townsend and Sandro are. That will have a large influence on what team plays.

Don't want too many coming into XI from the treatment table, need some sort of continuity there and some of them aren't exactly match fit.

I'd imagine Vertonghen and Sandro the 2 most likely to start. Can't see Kaboul or Paulinho being used from the start.

Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela - have yet to begin their comebacks.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-start-comeback-trail-in-upton-park-friendly?

This can't be right! He played and also scored for the U/21's against N'Castle (4-1) on Tues 14/01/2014.

So how can Tim come out and say : Two other players - ''Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela - have yet to begin their comebacks''.

Paulinho and Vertonghen are top class players and need to go straight into the starting line-up. We have been fortunate to play some dire teams the last two weeks, but starting the same team as last week will see us get blown off the pitch.

I know most won't agree, but this is close to what we saw against Stoke in the first half, where we played really well:

Lloris
Walker Chiriches Vertonghen Rose

Dembele Paulinho
Lennon Eriksen Soldado

Adebayor

Apparently Townsend had a setback from the match and reason why subbed off earlish I heard, can't remember where read it but I read it right after that match somewhere.. Also I don't think Tim says that with Townsend and lamela, SSN have just added it on I think, could be wrong and eyes deceiving

sandro and verts def have to play if fit.. personally i would play paulinho instead of bentalab too...sandro paulinho and dembele in middle lennon erikssen either side and ade up front... vlad/ kaboul and verts in middle at back

if shit dembele turns up, get hm off and get bentalab/soldado on .. remain strong in midfield against their lot and any point picked up in this match is a bonus
