Myself and a friend had the privilege of visiting the training ground today and watching the first team train. Before the training match started Steffen Freund showed us the list of 1st team players who were taking part in an 8 vs 8 training match, interestingly there were also names of players in orange (Verthongen/Kaboul/Sandro) who didn't take part but were still doing some sort of light training and players in red who were not training at all (Townsend/Lamela/Kane/Sigurdsson/Holtby). I wouldn't expect any of the players that were listed in red to make the bench vs city.

We had the opportunity to visit because one of the prizes on the spurs credit card is to watch the 1st team train.

Based on that I'd expect us to line up with the same team that played Swansea with Sandro possibly thrown in there.

No mention or sign of Paulinho mate?

Holtby played in the West Ham game so he must be ready.

There was no sign of Capoue, Paulinho or Friedel at all but Freund did say that some of the players from the West Ham friendly were being rested so it's possible that they'll be on the bench.

Don't really agree with your last paragraph. If Sandro or Paulinho are deemed fit enough to start they absolutely should be IMO. No idea why you would think the advanced three wouldn't see as much as ball - as it would make us more competitive competing for the ball.

For me its not just about the players you pick in terms of how your game plan pans out - its the mind set and instructions you send them out with.
Having move of the ball doesn't necessarily lead to the front three seeing ball more, surely the past six months is evidence enough of that. A huge part, I'd say the main part, of why we've been attacking better is because we've had several options for the midfield to choose from in terms of players in front of them at all times. By losing one of the front four positions from the last game for a more 'solid' player, we're going back to the idea of sacrificing some adventure for the sake of possession. I'd happily see one or both of Paulinho and Sandro replacing one or both of Dembele and Bentaleb, but I do not want to see more than two of those four players.

It may be regarded as a bit defensive but, seeing as we are playing at home to the champions elect, I would like to see this:

Lloris

Walker Vlad Jan Rose

Paulinho Sandro Dembele

Lennon Adebayor Eriksen

However, I think that Bentaleb will play instead of one of Sandro/Paulinho due to fitness concerns, and I still find it hard to believe that Daws will be dropped.

My team was almost the same, just didnt think Sandro would be 100% so went with Capoue. Like you i do expect Bentaleb to start

Team v West Ham in Thursday's freindly :

Friedel; Naughton (A McQueen, 75), Kaboul (Gallifuoco, 60), Vertonghen (Stewart, 60), Fryers; Capoue, Paulinho (Ward, 60), Sandro (Veljkovic, 46); Holtby (Couleybaly, 75), Kane, Sigurdsson.

I'd suggest that Sigurdsson, Holtby and Kane were on the 'Red' list as having all played 75 or 90 minutes they had time off.

Equally Vertonghen, Kaboul, Sandro might have been on the orange list as they were being assessed for any adverse reaction to playing in the West Ham match for 45 or 60 minutes. I'm slightly surprised Paulhino wasn't in that group too - maybe his injury was being assessed as less likely to cause a reaction, in which case he's motre likely to be involved v ManCity.

Maybe Paulinho's name was on the orange/red list and it just wasn't noticed by the person who looked at the orange/red list?

Antything is possible but 'Stunan' seemed to have a pretty good recollection, so I've taken his info as being accurate

----------------Lloris--------------
Walker----Vlad----Verts------Rose
--------Benteleb---Dembele
Lennon-------Paulinho-------Eriksen

We really have some nice options with Sandro, Lamela, Townsend, Soldado and Kaboul to come in.

Paulinho was definately nowhere to be seen and probably had the day off to rest.

We saw Sandro, Kaboul and Verthongen all in the physio room and Kane/Townsend were doing some light work on the bikes then stretching in the gym while the other players were training, I'm assuming they're coming back from muscular injuries.

Either way, from what we saw the players are looking good for having a week or so rest. Lennon was on fire and scored some fantastic goals, Defoe and Soldado also looked excellent.

Funnily enough Christian Eriksen was the only player to stay on the pitch practicing free kicks while everyone else went inside which was nice to see. Tim Sherwood told us they can't get him off the training ground at the minute.

Sounds good. Sorry to doubt you!!

Absolutely loving that bit about Eriksen. He's a top-class player and if we can get him loving his football week in week out then he will be a major asset to us in the coming weeks, months and years.

I'm going to need video proof of Lennon's 'fantastic goals', however ;) Sounds very unlike him. Sure he didn't just scuff the ball into the corner?

Still don't entirely agree mate. All the last six months proved is that we had loads of possession but didn't do enough with it - slow and risk averse possession. That's not just down to the personnel, its down to a mind set and being instructed to play a certain way, that's my point.

In other words a midfield of Sandro, Dembele and Paulinho could look and function completely differently to when they were all picked to play under AVB.

I agree in the sense it that you need that balance in terms of forward thinking passes, but I thinks its an oversight to assume certain groups of players playing together will produce the same type of football under Sherwood that they did under AVB.

It's well known that Levy has banned individual ball point pens, as a cost saving excercise, in favour of those changable 4 colour ball points.

It's also well known that Freund is red/orange colour blind.

Letting Steffen compile the list was disaster waiting to happen... and one all of our own making. It could only happen at Spurs.

Supposedly, doubt we will see him any time soon that's for sure. real shame, I wasn't so fussed about seeing him against City but Hull two days later would have been a great game for him to start. Even if fit I can't see him starting against Everton or Newcastle, Norwich on the 23rd is the first PL game I can see him having a shot at starting. kid seems to have had the worst luck so far this season.
