That back 4 v city is scary. Its even scary v villa after this game

Villa, City and Brighton will feast against our high line with no VdV. Can only hope the injury is less serious than what we assume.

Johnson has to start obviously. If Maddison isn't fit then Gio starts, the only reason we kept him is for situations like this. The defence who knows, would start Dier as I felt he did well yesterday but beyond that... Im guessing Davies at LCB (if fit) but would be tempted to try one of the kids.

If Bentancur feels ready I’d bring him in for Sarr as well. Think we’re going to need to be more assured on the ball in midfield and control things in that area a bit more. Defence won’t be as comfortable on the balI. like the energy Sarr brings but his control, ball manipulation and passing is a bit rushed and inconsistent still. Need as many top end press resistant players in the team as possible now imo. Can understand if it’s to early though but against Villa he should come in.

————————— Vicario —————————
Porro —— Dier ———— Phillips —— Emerson
—————— Sarr ———— Bissouma —————
Johnson ——— Kulusevski ——— Gil
————————— Son ———————————-

Maddison for Gil if fit and set up as per last night re the front players.

Possibly Richarlison for Son subject to fitness.

Most interesting will be the backline. We have a couple of options, none of which are ideal but we could go

Porro, Emerson, Dier, Davies
Porro, Dier Phillips, Emerson

Could even go Porro, Dorrington, Phillips, Emerson but that would be very risky and harsh on Dier who was very good last night.

If Maddison is injured we also have options. Kulu could play there and have Johnson, Son, Richy up top. Gil could play there but again big risk there as he is an unknown quantity under Ange. GLC the obvious backup but since looking really good in preseason, he's not really impressed when called on.

Whatever the lineup, in Ange I trust.

Ange doesn’t strike me as the sort to shy away from big decisions and a worry over age etc

Ange said in an interview that he likes to see if young players sink or swim when thrown into the mix of games.

So I think we could see Phillips who has trained closely.

Wonder if this is another thread I get "insufficent priveleges to reply" to for no reason at all....

I'd like to see Phillips get a start, but with just a few days to Wolves I could also see it being sensible to wait for the international break to prepare him better, then again with Romero out it's a chance to give him game time on his preferred side (which I'm assuming is the right) and someone else on the left before we need him to cover Micky's absence.

I think Ange is more likely to start him than not, and however he chooses to line us up, I'll support it.
