according to drakey on ftl theres itk on everton forums that barkley to cfc for under 10m is done
There was so much BS on those forums over the summer. About 4 times they said he'd signed a new contract, or that he'd had a medical with us.

he is you know!

Everton wanted him to go to cfc to cash in but he never wanted to, that medical story was bs as stated by rb himself. Plus still not fit according to jj

I like it’s very obvious what we need and it’s not that much probably 3 players.
CM
AM/winger
2nd striker

Obviously won’t happen in January, Maybe one of those. But at least the club can be pretty focused and make sure they get exactly what they need. Although Poch generally surprises neither wanyama or Sanchez were obvious buys. But ironically probably been best 2 buys in 18 months.

Rumour is Yannick Carrasco is being made available. Would love to go for him.

Edit: turns out I'm behind the times and this has already been discussed! Move along.

Be interesting to see the reaction if Barkley really has gone to Chelsea, seemed to be our number one target.

All this about him being injured is not correct. Everton confirmed he was back in training a week ago. He may not be match fit, but it's not going to take him that long to get up to speed. He should be ready to go by the end of the month.

The on pitch stuff and body language was just me being facetious, he's always been a chippie little fucker. I don't mind that at all but he's made it pretty clear he wants his bumper northern payday, and quite honestly I don't mind that either, he can fuck off with my blessing, because he's never been as great as he thinks he is.

Fit. He's still arguably the best LB in the league.

Exactly. We need backups for Kane and Eriksen. It’s unrealistic to expect them to play every game the whole season without a dip in form and we do not look good when they are not in form. Kane was misfiring badly in august and Eriksen is just coming back from a dip in form. We need a backup striker who knows his role and can excel in it. Someone like Giroud or Michy(Solskjær!) who can deliver goals from the bench. Unfortunately we can’t seem to find a good backup striker. Maybe we should buy one who is used to being a backup.

Eriksen is by far our best player to dictate our game. We look good when he sees a lot of the ball and is having a good passing game. He makes us tick. Our overall play takes a huge dip when he is struggling and out of form. We just don’t have anyone who can do the same thing in our squad. Lamela is coming back and can deliver some of the playmaking further forward and Winks can do some of the safer passing deeper, but they don’t offer the same whole package as Eriksen and i doubt the FA will allow us to play with an extra player.

I think we could use a more offensive minded playmaking CM. Someone who can take over some of the playmaking duties from Eriksen and can stand in when needed. Also because it looks like Dembeles body is giving up. It’s easy to point to City with Silva and KDB, but they also have Gündogan(who would probably walk straight into our starting 11). I wouldn’t mind getting someone like that, like a young fabregas, scholes type of player. We are not getting them but maybe someone like Goretzka or Seri? Liverpool getting Keita and thats not a bad buy. A CM that offers a bit more offensive playmaking than our current midfielders.

People who watch palace more than me, could zaha play as a striker in our system? He seems to have played centrally quite a bit over the past year, but haven't seen many full games.

If he could he'd be the perfect signing for our squad imo. Would have said totally impossible to get in January, but Hodgson's not ruled it out and someone here mentioned a clause so maybe not

Barkley will want to play in the World Cup next summer. He needs games before then to force his way in to the squad.

Either he signs an extension with Everton and starts playing again or he leaves in January.

No way is he sitting out until May just to land a move to us or anyone imo, unless he signs a small extension with Everton with a buyout clause that comes in to effect in May or something?

This smells like Everton bullshit to try and scare us into more money.

There is no reason for him to go to Chelsea. He specifically wants to work with poch, is good mates with our England lot and with a World Cup coming up why would you go to a team with sufficient CM cover (fabregas, Kante, drinkwater, bakayoko) and loads of attacking mids (Fabregas, William, hazard, Pedro)

Also what has changed his mind since the summer?

I'm convinced he's still coming to us

January transfer window now primarily exists mostly for low league clubs to plug gaps in their squad... And the bigger clubs to loan out some bench warmers.

... Anyone hoping for something of real substance should prepare themselves to be disappointed.
Is that why the Scousers have just agreed a £75m fee for Van Dijk ?

This is the reason why we will need to do something in January.....I expect the Scousers and possibly Chelski to strengthen, which means if we don't we could have a problem.

You want us to spend money because the scousers have blown 75m on VVD?

In essence, this was a transfer from last summer that just dragged on though. Not good news for us. Does strengthen Liverpool, and it's them and us for 4th in my opinion.

What I'm saying is that we can't be so sanguine to simply say we won't do any January business because "we never do" or "JJ says so". If all of our competitors in the top 6 were to strengthen their teams in January then I'm suggesting that it is problematic for us if we stand still, in exactly the same way as if this happened in the summer window.
