Dare I suggest that one of the most sensible, if not spectacular, things we could do in January is look to purchase one, if not two, English goalkeepers. It is plain crazy that we use up 2 of our non-HG slots on Vorm and Gazzaniga. This in turn has a very significant impact on our purchases in other positions as we are forced to look for HG players and pay over the odds as a result for players like Zaha. I think the HG factor also explains the obsession with Barkley. How about creating more room in the squad for non HGs by not using them for the one position where our back ups barely play.
The transfer strategy is baffling. It's the main thing holding us back.

It's as if Llorente and Gazza II were brought in to be friendly translators in the dressing room.

I think it's worth taking into consideration, we have gotten to where we are now as a squad because of player trading not despite of it.

I forgot about Llorente but I guess I could see some logic to buying a player with CL experience who was willing to sit on the bench. A bit like Janssen, we just have to clock him up as one that hasn’t worked out and much like Janssen I hope we move him on quickly. Overall though I think it is difficult to discern a “strategy” in our transfer business other than zero net spend. Cue the BSoDL to come shrieking to defend our glorious leader.

That’s an interesting take on things but not one I would agree with. Prior to Poch we got to be top 6 with two seasons where we made 4th. Being top 6 was just par for the course given our resources. There is no doubt we have outperformed since Poch joined but I think that is down to having an amazing coach rather than our player trading.

‪completely unrelated but why are united not getting called the legends now? If this was Spurs we would hear it for the next 30 years. ‬
Because they are not in second now, and can't be expected to compete with the big money teams like City, when United have such a small transfer budget.

They did won some pots last season... Perhaps that'd give them some extra credibility and cut them some slack in times like these...

If we were after a player like Balde, how was the next player on the list Llorente? Two completely differing types of striker...

What exactly is the strategy? And where was the backup target for Balde?

Similarly, making an approach for Zaha a week before the end of the 2016 summer window and ending up with Sissoko (who was played RW in his first season) - again, two completely different types of player.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to our attacking purchases.

Nothing in this thread regarding Kane to worry about, Paul Wilson article is just playing to all their new Woolwich fans in their readership.

Harry will not be sold in the summer. There will be a new contract but it's people around Harry who are pushing that more than him.

HY has very good sources but I wouldn’t waste time reading some of the non-COYS people mentioned.

Guess he’s talking about Trix & Hercules or are they on COYS too?

I agree on the whole, we’ve usually done decent business in the long term. Just not sure we’d be anywhere near where we are now without Harry Kane, and he’s very much in spite of player trading.

There was another article in The Guardian yesterday about how Arsenal players loath Sanchez. No sources, no quotes, just a gentle lubricant to help the sting of losing him this window. The Kane article was pure bollocks, where the writer basically stated that it was inevitable Kane was going in the summer.

I'm going for the perfect hat trick here; write one post with my left thumb, the other with my right, then boldly claim that once @dovahkiin posts it's clearly time for the Transfer Rumour (and Transfer ITK thread) to appear. Come on, @Archibald&Crooks make this terrible beauty happen
