Just heard here in Dublin that there could be a possibility that Terry Dixon may be going on loan to Saint Patrick's Athletic, our opponents for the July 12th friendly.

This may not turn out to be correct information but I heard this off the fans forum of St Pats where I heard a few days ago that the friendly was going to place so maybe it is true.

I for one would love this to happen as being a St Pats/Spurs fan, having Dixon in DUblin would benefit both clubs, Terry would get senior competitive football (including UEfa Cup football) for St Pats, Spurs would have one of their up and coming talents getting European football experience, senior football experience and it would perhaps give him the confidence to go straight into the first team.

honestly dont think this would happen, if he is loaned out then i reckon it will be championship/league one level, no disrespect to the irish league but its not really that good is it?

That would seem pretty pointless unless he were homesick, but since he's a Londoner, born in Archway, with Irish parents who are also still living in London, that seems unlikely. He's 17, so he doesn't need to be farmed out for experience yet.

The un-informed will say it's a shite league, but I'd say to them to at the 5th top scorer in last years league - Kevin Doyle (Former St. Patrick's forward who played here in Ireland for 4 years)

Paul McGrath's first club was St. Pats before he joined Man Utd, while Roy Keane started off in Ireland too.

This could be a great opportunity for Dixon as there would be little pressure on him here, he wouldn't get into a Championship first team IMO also

Whilst he's still this young I'd prefer to see him training and playing with our other youth players. Maybe once he's had a year or two with them then, depending on his progress, we should consider loaning him out to the best club that wants him (which, no offence, is hardly likely to be St Pats)

I'm going to like this discussion

The Irish league (eircom league) has been steadily improving over the past few years, Shelbourne FC were about 30 mins away from making the group stages of the Champions League a few years ago, something we'd all love to see Spurs make!

If you look at the players that have gone to England from the eircom league in the past 2 years, the majority have succeeded. Irish players who go over as 14/15/16 year olds go over with a lot to risk, eircom league players are succeeding more than these kids going over.

What league in England would you compare it with? I ask because I've never seen the point in loaning out players to clubs below the Championship. At that level we learn very little about how good they are so it's ultimately a waste of time for Spurs.

So what sort of level is the eircom league?

People would give different answers to that question.

IMO, the best eircom league teams are as good as Scottish Premier League teams (bar the old firm)/the bottom 5/10 teams of the Championship.

Another advantage for Terry Dixon going out on loan is that he would be working with Brian Kerr, former Ireland manager.

ii would still say the top half of the scotish Premier league would be better than them, they normaly have better chances or do get further in CL or Uefa cup qualification, they might be on par with the bottom few teams though.... still means there not good enough to send players who are highly tiped to them

Can't see it.

If anything, if he IS as highly rated by managers as he seems to be by the Irish FA, I'd expect a loan to a Championship side if he is, indeed, to go anywhere at all.

I believe he'll end up in one or two of our first team squads before the end of the year...
Call me crazy...
I just have a feeling this guy is the next 'Rooney' and I remember Staunton saying he is the most talented guy of his age in England/Ireland. The management I believe know this, hence all the news about him on our official site and the fact that he made the Ireland national squad.

I, for one, would love for Spurs to start pushing more of our talented youth slightly quicker than we do. Pekhart is another guy with huge potential...
