Wow that's complete bullshit.
It really isn't. Why would they put themselves in the position of authenticating or confirming something they know nothing about? It just isn't done. If something comes from the club 'officially' then it'll come with a letter or certificate of authenticity, they have no control (or very little) over what players sign at the gates or wherever. It just isn't their business to authenticate or confirm anything, blimey, if they started that they'd be inundated. And as for items signed ten years ago or more, good luck finding someone at the club who'd be sure of that. Overall, it just makes sense for them to not get involved.

It needs someone else to say this is so and so's signature, such as has or will probably happen in this thread, that's about the best you can hope for really.

This is fair but if the club do hold records of players signatures, it would be nice if the could offer a little help to a fan.

Of course, they're not obliged to but it would just be a nice thing to do.

Edit. He's not asking for it to be authenticated, just help recognising some of the signatures.

Yeah it'd be a nice thing to do but as I said, if they started to do it, they'd be inundated dealing with stuff they have nothing to do with. Not to mention leaving themselves open to the interpretation that the signatures are genuine. "You said it was Simon Davies' signature, it's not" and any reply would very likely be printed off and used as unofficial authentication.

Would it be nice? Yes, you're right, of course it would. Would it be practical? Not really, no.

Yeah, I suppose you're right.
