Was just thinking about ledley and his new contract, I'm sure he will see out his career with us and thought he would have a testimonial one day. Hopefully not too soon either!!

Can you think of the last or other great players that have had one?
They seem quite rare these days with players moving around so
much.

Oddly enough apparently Carragher is going to have a testimonial with Liverpool against Everton this fall, with the proceeds going to his charity. I thought they were only for players retiring.

I thought they were for players who spent ten years at a club and legends

sorry i love ledley , but i dont agree with a testimonial game.
nothing to do with ledley..just that hes got enough money hasnt he?

in the old days players deserved a testimonial ,because the were not making anything like todays players are...totally different.

only if a player gets a serious injury, and hes playing days are cut short, should he have a testimonial...IMO.

seeing as we have just given ledley a new 2 year deal, (hugely deserved)
he doesnt come under that catagory...

the only way he could justify having one, would be if he donated most of it to charity...and thus allow the fans to say thanks to a legend...
but if he was to keep the money....mmmmmm.

Most of the money does go to charity these days, of course he might be benefiting if he donates to a charity that specialises in knees

Ledley Brenton King has been with us ever since he signed on as a trainee back in 1997, thats 13 years as a loyal servant so far!

He's not interested in playing for any other team and truly is a Spurs legend, and whilst the players don't need the money these days, the fact a testimonial recognizes the service that a player has given, and that most, if not all of the money goes to charity i can't see a player more deserving of one than our King!

Hopefully we do give him, is against one of the big teams and gets a great turnout.

Didn't Gareth Barry demand money off of Villa when he moved to City because he was going to miss out on his testimonial. If true then that is sick, how greedy can you get?

I'd definitely go to Ledleys testimonial but I agree that the money should go to charity.

If we're talking testimonials, Morris Keston is the man. He's organised over 20 testimonials for Spurs players, plus ones for Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Gordon Banks. It's all in his book 'Superfan', including how only two clubs out of the six who were asked wanted to be involved in Jimmy Greaves's testimonial in 1974.

There's still a place for testimonials in the modern game, but only as money-raising games for charity. Shearer, Solskjaer and Roy Keane all raised millions for worthy causes through testimonial matches.

You mentioning this does ring a bell and I can recall something to go with Barry and demanding money from villa for one reason or another due to 'time served'....

Hmm, time to hit google!

King definitely deserve a testimonial match. Its not very much abt the money, but its more of fans showing our appreciation towards a players contribution all the years and also for the player to thank the fanx for all their support. Money can be donated to some charity organisation. The last one i managed to watch was testimonial for Oliver Kahn. The game if i remember correctly was between German national team vs Bayern Munich...

In the old days when footballers were only on a 3-5 times a workers wage a testimonial was their nest egg, usually buying a pub with the proceeds..... probably not a good idea in Ledley's case.
