I know I do this from time to time, but this is another delightful example of successive posters who I just wish were talking to each other rather than themselves...

...gary doherty

he is a legend. one of the greatest players to grace football. A pleasure.

Really, Si? Are you sure about that, mate?

Pure class, and we can say we had him for two years when man utd should have had him instead!

Hmm. Now come along. Someone's been at the battery acid again, haven't they?

Carrick for me. I'm rubbish at going past players but i've got a good pass and first touch. Watching him helped me to forget about doing tricks and just concentrate on intercepting the ball and moving it on, then moving to receive it again.

I tend to copy the likes of Darren Caskey, Paolo Tramezzani, Steffen Freund, Jason Cundy, anyone around my level really

Never really copied any footballers. I'd just be out playing all the time.
I was pretty good in my younger years, I used to play centre midfield, up front or in goal.

Signed for a conference team to play in goal, so kinda got stuck there for a while, or until I stopped playing for a few years. By then, everyone needed goalkeepers, so I got back into it. Never really copied any particular goalkeeper, but always liked david james, in my opinion, one of the best around.

Jimmy Greaves....sigh .

You sidefoot your shot with accuracy but not power ..you never really made much effort to head the ball...and you always, I said ALWAYS , dribble round the keeper when through on goal :)

That was my playing style - don't run about too much, dribble round the keeper, pass into the net. Funny old game.

Ledley King.

I used to be obessed with scoring and creating and as a result was trying to ahrd to play in a posotion i'm not reallys suited to. I don't finish well and becasue i'm tall I don't have partically quick feet and with my back tpo goal i get my head down. I am a fast runner though so sometimes if the weather was right and the moon was full and saturns was in orions shaddow and the opposition were terrible, I would ahve a great game but generally I was terrible. My love for King has made me love CB and defending. I have found i'm a natural and can play consistently well at a much higher standard of football than i could at CF or wide. My range of passing is good so i can still get involved creating but always facing play, never with my back to goal where i used to panic.

I've learnt that a slide tackle needn't be your first option, in fact you rarely need it at all if you stand you opponent up in the right areas... you should only need to slide when you are covering behind a mistake of another player.

I used to love to score, now i love to nick a ball off the toes of a striker just as they are about to score... or taking a goalies 70 yard punt up field on the chest, killing it dead and passing it to the full back.

And CF's are so much easier to trick too, they gamble on you playing it one way so you can just side step them and stroll away, they are a breed are lazy so you rarely get them chasing you back once you've done um.

Ledley King helped me find my role, regardless of how good or bad I am thats still a pretty impressive thing to say about someone. I'm good though.
