Pretty sure Arsenal have rarely bought through their own talent (bar Wilshere and Cole I guess in recent years).

They've long concentrated on poaching young players part way through their development from other teams (see the Barca/Southampton/French lads, Gibbs etc). At least, that's my understanding from one of my Gooner mates.

A bit like Liverpool with Ibe and Sterling or us with Bentaleb and Rose, I guess.

Rose had never played for Leeds before he joined Spurs aged 17, Bentaleb again joined young before playing first team league football, whereas both Sterling and Ibe had been playing for other league clubs and joined Liverpool in big money high profile deals with big reputations as 'the latest big thing' .

OK-all you guys who watch the youth-hand on heart-one guy and one guy only who will make it.

Unfortunately don't get to watch nearly as much as some of these guys in here, but Kyle Walker-Peters for me. He bulks up a bit, then he would have it all. Superb athleticism, good reading of the game, fantastic offensive contribution, and I think is incredibly motivated from his body language. Dude just absolutely gives it his all.

Will be a Premier League player IMO, no question about it to me.

I've felt for a while that we should, where possible, blood the kids earlier. I think it would enable us to secure better loans for them, which would futher their development. after all if we're prepared to give them some game time scouts may take more of an interest in them. I'm sure scouts views of our players would be higher if they got to see them play genuine competitive football rather than just the youth leagues, even if it just is europa and early cup rounds.

As has been mentioned though this bloated squad of ours is very bad timing considering some of the talent we've got coming through and further highlights why AVB really was the wrong manager for us, cheque book manager just as the youth start to come to fruition

I agree but I think we have suffered from to many managers if a manager plans long term and is back he can bring though younger players when the pressure is on and short term results so important it's hard to bring though youth.

Agree I consider him a completely different case. Obviously he had raw ingredients but for no one to want him clearly we are the ones that turned him from a player unwanted by even Birmingham I bekive to a potentially world class player.

Additionally I consider Rose slightly different Ibe was already playing league football and had massive hype and was subsequently bought. Everyone was after Sterling and I beloved he was bought for a 500k rising to 5mil.

I don't think Rose was bought but was it more a compensation. Additionally he never had that hype.
Oh boy, he must love us.

Guess I;m going to be that guy, but what is your defintion of making it.

Become a premier league footballer - Livermore
Someone who consistently plays and does well for us
Or someone who becomes World Class.

See I would go off the first one but I guess that's easier and a bit boring haha

Each. Do it. Entertain us where the first team is failing.

I think the reason we can fairly confidently say we have leapfrogged Arsenal when it comes to the academies is that the club have worked harder and committed the time/people/resources to identify the young players who show signs of potential. I wouldn't say its down to Arsenal cutting back due to financial pressures building the stadium.

I remember reading years and years ago an interview with McDermott when he was still new at Spurs. He made a point of saying that for a long time Spurs had been a club that took a half hearted approach to finding these kids. They scouted in the Home counties and picked players up from the 'nice' clubs/schools who had good facilities they could go and visit, and where parents could also afford to send their children to a soccer school/camp and maybe get noticed that way, but hadn't done enough in spotting inner city kids in London and this was something that he wanted to change. Fast forward 5-10 years and you have noise coming out of Arsenal (was it Liam Brady?) conceding that it was often the case that they noticed a player, but then found out that we had simply had the scouts on the ground far more comprehensively and been faster at identifying them. That's without even going into factors such as the new facilities and also other educational/community work that is done that goes into it as well.

Arsenal have maybe got a bit complacent, but I think the sheer effort we have put in has been rewarded.

Adapt or die hey, you need to keep an eye out on what everyone's doing as they will copy you and over take you I think they have been lazy and complacent. Let's hope we stay a few steps a head.

Each. Do it. Entertain us where the first team is failing.

I started doing it but for players that could make it for us I was putting the same standard players it was pointless.

Anyway after much deliberation I opted for CCV. I went with the fact that I can see more weaknesses in Onomah's gamethan CCVs atm for their respective position. Though I think Onomah will have an easier route to the first team for some reason than CCV.

I also think Pritchard will really blow. Tbh and I know I am cheating now but I agree with all the ones mentioned in this thread including Veljkovic picking one is too hard.

My definition of making it is having a successful pro career - making a living from football till you retire in your thirties.
I assume you misunderstood what I meant by blow. I meant like blow up like Kane did. As opposed to blowing as in sucking (lol how 2 opposites mean the same)

I love this thread because there is no pettiness no negs even when IG gets all ghetto and uses a word we take to mean fail but means success. :) well done people.

I can't wait for the likes of Pritchard, Carroll (although, i don't think he'll make it here long term, I would love to be proven wrong!), Veljkovic, Alli, Winks and Onomah to be given a chance to replace some of the wastes of space we have in the first team right now. It shouldn't have taken the absolute mess we now have to tidy up in our squad to make the club realise we need to focus on the youth and that the players need to be given a proper chance and some trust. Everyone that is a regular reader of this thread needs to make sure that the club never forgets what has happened over the last couple of seasons!

Keep a eye on Joe Muscatt a Left back with brilliant passing ability he has a fantastic engine and can make overlapping runs all day but the most important thing is you can see he has a football brain and knows what he is doing without looking spectacular.

Cameron Carter Vickers.

CCV, so calm and composed for his age. But I'd be sorely disappointed at this stage if he was the only one from the current crop.

Veljkovic

Don't be "the guy"- name one.

80m spent on capoue, paulinho, lamela and soldado. two years later and they'll have been usurped by bentaleb, mason, pritchard and kane :notworthy:

100% agree mate. I am very guilty of not giving him enough credit as a few others have made headlines, but for me he has been the next best defender come through after Maghoma along with Tanganga. Everytime he has played I have been impressed. His understanding of the game is so good. He can overlap and underlap, links up well round the box and generally has good decision making. He looks like a really classic LB and his defending is good. Tbf I usually give him good reviews in any reports. I think I miss him as he isn't as eye catching so to speak but make no mistake he looks to have a future.
