I read a really brutally honest interview with him recently and to be fair to him he doesn't blame anyone else but himself - not the crappy upbringing or the crime gangs his family got involved with or the break-up between his mum and dad. He held his hands up and said he's been a silly bastard and he knows that while it's his fault it's also his responsibility to make it right too. I thought the same as many on here, but that interview was as honest as you could get. He even said that when Newcastle won the Championship, him and Alan Smith celebrated with a cup of tea!!
For me, his footballing ability speaks for itself and I think he now has the mentality to take this opportunity which, to be honest, really is his final throw of the dice. That matched by his new attitude and the fact he's on a free, for me its a no brainer!

Everyone questioning my statement of 'he's a winner' - why exactly are you basing that on the number of trophies won?

A 'winner' is someone who wants to win matches, and will always fight to do so. He's 100% committed to the cause of his team and will do anything (usually too much) to win.

You gormless mugs quoting me with rofl signs and calling me out on what exactly has he won can stick it - I was talking about his attitude, which anyone with half a brain could see.

I agree. He's got balls like Dave Mackay and Vinnie Jones. He wants to win at all costs. In a good team he would be one hell of a driving force.

It should be of interest that even if you think he only had "one good season", you'll note that it was the one just finished. So heaven forbid we get a player who is coming into form, has a bit of grrrrr about him, knows the English game and doesn't cost the Earth to bring here.

Did you want Gallas last year?
What's the obsession with "grrr" about players? I'm all for a bit of tenacity, but this guy does NOT know how to tackle and what's the point in all that "grrr" if you can't tackle (without breaking someones legs - *cough*etuhu*cough*.

And yes I did want Gallas last season, as unlike Barton, Gallas and proven himself in the top tier of world football, for club and country and CAN tackle.

lol....did you watch Newcastle last season? By far their best player and Barton is a very talented footballer, there is no doubt about that.

Sure he's had a whole host of problems regarding his character and attitude, but there are signs that he is overcoming these issues.

Infact I would go as far as saying he could get even better if nurtured properly.

I would seriously consider signing Barton, particularly that we are talking about a free here.
Yes, I watched Newcastle last season and readily admit Barton had a good (his best) season. I also watched him at City and in his earlier years at Newcastle - what's your point?

He's an average footballer, but definitely, DEFINITELY not good enough for top 5 EPL football. Not even worth it on a free.

Have to disagree on this point.

as i understand it Sandro is out for three months, so back playing in November. Someone like Barton for free has to be a bargain over parker or diarra who would both cost reasonable fees. snap him up IMHO but i fancy him going to arsenal for CL footy.

Can't see him at Arsenal - can you imagine Wenger taking somone on like that - he wouldn't be able to man manage him (Harry could) Also I don't think his past personal problems would appeal to any of the other sky four managers.

I personally would much prefer him over Parker but then who wouldn't ?

malaga and PSG are interested and he has already spoken to everton.

Malaga and PSG have probably never heard of him and are being linked because they're big spenders

Would much prefer Diarra (who is younger) and Parker (who is older) but both would cost a lot more

Again (and I hope this is not going to become the epitaph of this window) we need to shift some midfielders first or we'll end up wasting wage bill on players who hardly get a game
