Another reason I believe De Boer should be preferred to Pochettino (as well as reasons already posted) is his winning mentality as outlined by Patrick Kluivert:-

Speaking to ESPN, Kluivert enthused about his former teammate at Ajax and Barcelona. "Like Pep Guardiola as a player, you could see Frank would become a trainer," Kluivert said.

"He is a winner. He wanted to win everything, even card games, anything other than football, he wanted to win, and that's the most important thing everybody needs to have. That's the most important thing, that you are a winner".

He has shown this through his playing career and his record breaking 4 league titles at Ajax as manager.
The reason Fergie was so successful was because of this mentality, he hated to lose any game and he managed to instill this in his players.

This is what worries me about Pochettino, his supporters talk about his playing philosophy which is obviously important, but is he a winner ? His managerial experience is at 2 clubs that are not expected to win many games, can he cope with the extra pressure of expectation at Spurs and turn our mentally fragile players into winners?

I'm not sure he can and that is why I would prefer De Boer as he has the philosophy as well as the winning mentality that our club needs.
Exactly, not a winning mentality when you think EUFA is a hindrance and you have very little experience of managing a team regularly in Europe.

How did he fail?

I think you'll find his sacking was political
May have been political but where was his team when got sacked?

2 points above relegation, doesn't exactly smack of success.. Had a good first season, wasn't able to follow that up.. FDB would be better appointment for me than Laudrup

You can't run a Club on that basis alone though. Some fans will say who they want without even thinking about it much or understanding stuff behind the scenes that we'd never be privy to.

I mean FFS, you're man Tuchel has loads of votes and I'm betting only a very small minority knew anything about him in terms of what sort of coach he was.

If it was all down to just that Clubs would just let their fans vote lol
My man Tuchel? I was laughing at anyone who wanted him.

Not saying it's all down to fans preference however if our fans are already against the manager appoinment just imagine if we get off to a slow start.

Paco Flores was the coach when Espanyol won the 2000 Copa. "Pochettino had great charisma in the dressing room," he says. "He never, ever accepted defeat and there was a huge amount of respect for him, almost like the hierarchy when you're doing military service. He really motivated his team-mates. He was a leader, a strong personality. There was also a powerful communion between players and fans and he saw the importance of that. He used that very well."

They were 12th.

He ticks a lot of boxes for me.

Why?

Surely there's a difference between absolutely not wanting someone and having a strong preference for someone else as opposed to another.

I mean I could understand your point if it were Moyes, but not Pochettino. He's not everyone's first choice obviously but I don't think that many would be appalled at the thought.

I see loads of people saying any of FDB, Poch or Benitez they'd be happy with etc. Or similar, but saying FDB is first choice.

12th yes, but how many points above relegation? 2, which isn't very many

FDB has won things, play good football and has done relatively well with his situation of losing best players yet still competing at high levels in the Champion League.. What has Laudrup done to make you want him? Yes he won the League Cup but that's about it

ATM the best bet, a short Brainstorm why (in no particular order):

- Former player (loads of players in current squad with many managers on CV though under 25y, in squad - OTF respect)
- Keep Vert for another season
- Eriksen can make the PL 1st season easy...
- Motivator by nature
- Multi-languagable
- Has experince with bad press (Club and ....)
- Experienced in a barfight (Captain)
- Tactician on good days, warrior on bad
- Will be in the managarial game for 15+ years
- Can attrackt cheap talent

Why not?
Think he can pull a Giggs anytime, tangeled deep in Cruyff's Ajax.

BTW: Check under the hood on AJAX today, -interseting :)

Note: Eriksen gets a championship bonus from Ajax as he was involved in the first 4 games.

I like Tino, don't get me wrong, I like how Southampton play, but I also like how Ajax play and like the fact that at the very core is a philosophy of self development through the club that gets taught to everyone.

From the youth point alone we should be getting FDB as the the youth will be at the core of the clubs long term development.

When he departed there was a sadness about the place, a recognition that Pochettino had been good for Espanyol. He had worked closely with the youth system, redesigning the setup, laying down tactical guidelines to be followed throughout the club and insisting on making each team play in an age group above, to increase their competitiveness and accelerate their development. It was not just an idea, it was a necessity. More than a dozen kids made their first-team debut under him and only three First Division teams had more youth-teamers in their first-team squad
