The club might not have made contact directly. However, it doesn't say that they haven't contacted an intermediary.

However, Spurs seem pretty pissed off with FDB. Perhaps they feel they are being used to smoke out another club?

I agree with you if I'm honest, what I don't like is this revolving door of managers and TS will just be the next and considering his record it just makes this one even worse from a neutrals and potential player/managers point of view.

Exactly
I would be surprised if FDB's point tally after the same amount of games would be better than TS.

Must be a legal/contract issue they're concerned with over Sherwood, otherwise the Club would of been better off saying nothing- unless of course there's no truth in it at all and FDB/Overmars etc are using us to flush ou Barca.

Lets be honest its not that scenario.

Statement says they haven't contacted clubs. Doesn't mention contacting managers directly. Covering themselves.
Wouldn't the first contact would be with FDBs agent...therefore making the clubs statement factually correct?

Looks blatantly to cover themselves for legal scenarios involving Mr Tim, who lets be honest, has likely blown a gasket over this. He's already shown himself to not be the most rational of folk.

Providing they've told de Boer first, which I'd imagine they must have done as it's good practice and courtesy to the guy you have presumably made first choice to be your manager, then there's nothing to see here really.

Ray Wilkins was on talkshit this morning when they were talking about FdB, he was surprised about the links with other managers and so looked at the points tally between the teams fighting for the 4th spot since Tim took over and the points look like this -

Wenger - 37
Sherwood - 36
Martinez - 35

I'm not a huge Tim fan but will feel a little sorry for him considering he has had no time to put a stamp on the team.

I want us to finish ahead of Arsenal one day.

His points tally is pretty good but lets remember that we should be doing better than Everton with the players we have and Arsenal have struggled second half of the season given the key injuries they've suffered.

Not with such a high quantity of new players to bed in. See Wenger's quote about this during the transfer mayhem. I can see that people dislike Sherwood (I am not a particular fan of his, one way or the other) but I think a more rational view of where we're at would be useful, rather than giving over to what of amounts to playground namecalling, which makes the perpetrators seem foolish and rather superficial. The points issue is something concrete. I accept your raising contexts of injuries. I would also say that Spurs have been similarly affected, and the injury to Lamela (unless it's not really an injury, but some dark plot, orchestrated by the pantomime villain of the piece, simply to spoil fans' season) has been highly significant. He is the man who, while not a direct replacement for Bale, can make things happen. Most fans - I think - expected/hoped for a top six finish at the outset. This is where we are. A fair amount of revisionism has gone on over the course of the season and that's fine but we should be honest about it. I did not want the removal of HR, AVB or TS. I find Spurs constant 'chop and change' (the new Spurs motto?) as darkly funny as it is pathetic. And it points to problems that are far deeper within the Club. It is of course best that this malaise is neither identified or addressed. Bread and circuses.

I don't think this deal is done
I don't even think that he has been chosen yet.

FDB is touting for the job in an insecure way

The contact I believe he is talking about is when AvB was first sacked

Maybe FDB is concerned about not being contacted again since.

But do we really want Tim to put a stamp on the team? He is such a divisive figure and is already alienating key members of the team and pitching fan against fan

Why?!

Judging by FDB's comments there's going to be talks at the very least.

The Club are just trying to avoid a reaction from Sherwood in all likelihood.
The fact is the statement had made De Boer look like a right idiot now. There's a chance he could walk away from us on principle.

Frank de Boer is LYING about Tottenham manager talks, claim Spurs

Looks good don't it

I didn't see that before but my opinion stands, there is no reason for them to lie.

If his agent had said it then there is room to manoeuvre but not when it comes directly from De Boer and Overmars.

Unless I've read it wrong, Spurs have stated there has been "no official approach to Ajax" and Overmars stated that we "made an unofficial approach to him about De Boers avbailibility"...........if correct, then neither side is lying and the press are (yet again) being schooled by the Dutch in the correct use and interpretation of the English language.

Can't believe for one minute that DL gives a flying fuck about Sherwood or his feelings when the club put out that statement....

Can't understand why we would comment on a rumour? unless its not just a rumour? i mean, why would we bother when there are plenty every day?

Unless he is in the loop, it's a pretty basic strategy. Say one thing to the media with a terse statement which pushes them out of the loop while keeping affected parties in the loop

He's done pretty well points wise IMO, but I don't think for over the long term he's ready to be given the job, he's a hell of a lot to learn, about many facets of management IMO, and we don't have the time to allow him to learn on the job.

I also suspect if he were allowed to carry on in similar vein next season the points tally would begin to decrease and we could find ourselves in a right mess.

We need to make the correct appointment, easier to be wise after the event I accept, back them and given them time.

Sherwood would not be the correct appointment in that sense, it would end in a right mess I fear and the majority of fans can't stand him either, its only heading one way.

He needs to go and cut his teeth in the lower leagues.
