I wasn't aware that Murray would move in to second if he wins. I may be getting a bit ahead of myself, but if he does win Wimbledon and moves in to 2nd, another decent US Open and you never know... could have a new No. 1 by the end of the year.

Without getting ahead of ourselves, Murray could be the world number 1 by the end of the very next tournament (or very soon after with Nadal not playing for a while). Also from July 21st as explained in the article Murray's 0 pointer will drop from his record and his next best result will come into play, so he is bound to make another move then. IF he wins Wimbledon and Federer is runner up, considering Nadal loses all 2000 points, the rankings would be as follows:

1. Nadal 10735
2. Murray 10730
3. Federer 10420

If Federer wins the tournament he regains the number 1 position (and quite rightly considering he would hold 3 or the 4 grand slams). It is a real race this year.

I can see why it was such a difficult decision for Nadal to pull out of Wimbledon, now. There's a great chance he's going to lose his no 1 ranking because of it. I knew Nadal and Federer were still pretty close in the race, but I had no idea that Murray was right behind them now. I have to start paying more attention...

I think the nadal beating federer last year at wimbledon has seemingly made people think federer has lost his touch and isnt the king of tennis anymore.

Federer is very much still the man to beat, nadal may have knocked him off his stride - but he is still the king of grass court tennis as you said.

I think I may have been a bit quick to suggest Murray will beat Federer. Both are ridicoulosly world class on their day, but imo Federer has more to his all round game, whilst Murray is more about the ground strokes and drop shots.

Experience comes into it as well, Federer has been their and done it so many times now, whilst Murray is still at the learning curve - although has improved dramatically over the last few years.

Murray vs Federer final no doubt. Even that will be seen as a fantastic achievement by Murray though, no shame in losing to arguably the best tennis player ever if he was to lose.

Cant wait.

I've set up some bets like you asked for Racky

Yeah should be a good tournament, would like to see Murray win the thing, this is a great chance.

Yeah nice one mate

I put what vcash I had left on Murray. Thats my heart speaking though.

Federer has the edge without a doubt, lets not be stupid, but Murray's one of those players that can produce a breathtaking performance out of the blue, a performance good enough to beat anyone - and with that, we have hope

Going for Vaidasova again? I reckon she would have a decent shot against Safina too. Hantuchova v. Laura Robson first round. Laura has a great game for grass, big serve and ground strokes and moves well, but Hantuchova has plenty of experience on grass. Could be a good game.

Your other pick from last year, Marcos Baghdatis, is already out. Who are you going for this year?

Robson wins the first set 6-3!

She's been broken back though.

I have a feeling Robson is going to become the next andy murray of the womens game. She will impress, perhaps beat hantuchova and a few others...expectancy will rise on her, she will get knocked out but come back each year a bigger and better player.

Saying that, she's 15 Eek

So no pressure on her, and even if she loses this game, fair play to her for even winning a set of hantuchova and making it an interesting game

Back to back double faults give away the 2nd set.

And Sharapova is 4-1 down in the 1st set of her game.

...and Laura also gives away the third set with a double fault. Oh dear.

Still, she's definitely showed that she has what it takes to make it.

Djokovic was really struggling. But looks like he's going to win the crucial second set.

Great effort from Robson against a player who has done well at Wimbledon in the past. She has definately got the shots to be a great player, just needs a little refining. I'm sure with some more matches (considering she hasn't played much this year) she'll start to cut down on the errors and choose her shots better. Definately one to watch.

Fed was comfortable, Djokovic not so much. Blake out, Sharapova battled through, a 10-8 5th set win. Good first day of Wimbledon.

Tomorrow (today here) it's the turn of Andy Murray.

I really do hope Murray wins it, although not sure if he will.

Also, is it me, or does Federa not like Murray much?

Good test for Murray this one. Despite all the press going on about how Murray beat him 0 and 0 last time on grass, it was never going to be easy. Kendrick is aggressive and if it goes for him he is a real danger on grass.

Hope Murray gets stuffed. Such an arrogant little twat.
