The ECB is investigating reports that Bairstow headbutted Cameron Bancroft in a bar earlier this month.

Reminiscent of last time tbh..... We're in a solid position, Aussies get a bit of momentum with their lower order and tail, then take that and destroy us in the second innings'.

Too easy to blame it on missing Stokes. We aren't good enough as a batting unit, we don't have enough variety or weapons in the quick bowlers (with or without Stokes), and don't have spin threat.

I'd say we've got to take some risks from now on. Batting line-up cant really be changed, but get Overton in the team and see if he offers a bit more pace and bounce, get Crane in and play two spinners and have the ball turning both ways. We have to try something.

Adelaide will be different kettle of fish regardless. The day/night format and that stupid pink ball changes everything. And its not the "old" Adelaide wicket anymore. Plenty in it for the bowlers now. Could be a case of a coin toss in it.

Forgot it was a Day/Night game next up. It will be billed as a close game, we'll probably get thrashed...

This isn't even one of your vintage bowling attacks, but you still have control and bowlers bowling a probing line/length, hostility, a left arm option, a competent spinner who can tie down an end... We've got half a dozen right arm bowlers, mostly doing the same job. No real pace or hostility, no real spin option, no left arm option... ECB and the Counties should be held accountable for this, something is going wrong in developing players and selecting them. We've been getting away with for too long, mostly on the backs of Anderson and Broad.

Which reminds me of another irritant in my (growing) list of dislikes regarding BT's coverage. Just how many times do they have to show the Ashes schedule? It's almost like several times a session.

And in the interest of balance, the snippets they show of the fans outside the ground or inside the inner concourse thing are a nice touch. But so far the positive list is a very small one. Thank fuck they only have the Cricket Australia contract (so far) and I wonder what would happen if Sky lost interest in showing cricket. Would the Sky team move en masse over to BT which would allow them to improve coverage and sack the legion of fucktards they currently employ?

I hate every time BT goes on a break it's that tedious BT infinity ad that comes up every time.

"THAT'S SUPER FAST"

fuck off

BT coverage has been appalling. Only ones worth listening to are Vaughan and Punter. As for Gabriel Clark who quite clearly had never watched a cricket match until 2 weeks ago...

Anderson and Broad's records speak for themselves. They have been fantastic for you. But.... they are showing the signs of wear and tear that come with age. They have both lost visable pace and really don't pose a big threat out here. I haven't seen anything in Ball to be scared of. Woakes is a bit quicker at times but cant seem to hit the spot with regularity.
The big difference between the 2 spinners is Moeen Ali cant get the bounce that Lyon has got, and Lyon has been really turning the ball. He really has bowled well.
Anyway this ones all but over. My hometown is next.

Vaughan has been on Nine's coverage as well. Good cricketing brain and brings balance to the team when he is on.

Adelaide is our only chance of getting into the series. If Jimmy happens to have the new ball when the lights are on, there's every chance of swinging Oz out for nothing. It's a complete lottery. Other than that our bowlers have little going for them. Next to no seam movement in Oz, factor in the Kookaburra ball (not sure why anyone uses this piece of shit) and it's a batsman's paradise -- unless you have 90mph bouncers in your side. Real shame Wood and Stokes aren't there, both capable of hitting 90 mph bowlers who could actually have caused some problems.

Cook seems to have escaped a lot of criticism but even an average knock from him could have been the difference. 9 combined over 2 innings :poop:

Obviously we need him to get a whole lot better and for Cook to find some big performances, but you always get one batsman who fails each match and the problems for me are highlighted by the others... All the other batsman made a contribution between 40-80 and some point, but that doesn't win you test matches and it's a common theme. They just don't as a batting unit put enough runs on the board and make the killer score.

So what’s all this nonsense about?

The BBC's cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew said: "I understand from the camp that Bairstow and Bancroft were having a drink together. Their heads met. They carried on drinking together.

"More ammo for accusations of a drink culture, but this will not help relations between the teams."

Probably a mountain out of a molehill. Bairstow and Handscomb were shown in discussion when he came out to bat. They played together at Yorkshire so nothing to see there. Dave Warner apparently gave some lip when he got out. Nothing unusual there. He gives as good as he gets. If they kept drinking together then there is nothing to see. Move on. It seems its both the Aussie and English media making something out of it, not the players.

Was also said somewhere Johnny greets friends with a headbutt. This seems to confirm it!

I don't think England are as far behind Aussie as everyone is saying.

The margins in elite sport are of course tiny, so it's kinda silly to argue - as I want to - that England were only short by 1 at-bat & 1 session of lose bowling. But, you know, that's pretty much true. You could say that's an ocean of difference at this level, but I think it could easily go the other way next time. We'll see, but I wouldn't write the Poms off just yet.
