Is it really? Last year we beat South Africa in their own patch and at home who are above in the Test Rankings. We are also above Australia in the Test Rankings.

Test cricket is in a poor state at this point imo. Cricket sides in the main seem to only win at home.
If this series was in England I’d back every day and twice on Sunday’s same against India, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka but if we were playing away vs those side I wouldn’t.
Australia are looking pretty good this series thus far but let’s not forgot they drew a series with Bangladesh and lost to India away recently

No offence, but you have also played 9 more tests during the ranking period and are only 8 points ahead. India are the dominant team at the moment, and the fact they have played so many matches on their home dustbowls has helped them. I wouldn't read to much into rankings.

Still doesn't really make sense to me, we could have been 6 down in the 30 overs before the close, the game would have been wrapped up a day earlier giving them more rest until the next test anyway.
