alternatively, i've thought for a number of years now, that jason roy should open in test cricket.
TBH I think that's only a matter of time. We just have to go through the motions and failures to get to that point in Root's head. Personally I'd like to see it sooner rather than later but it wouldn't surprise me if both Burns & Jennings start the first ashes test.

And Hales is (or could be) another option down the line.

Both openers gone cheaply. No surprise there.

Burns actually managed 2 poxy runs in the 12 overs he was in before getting out.

Do you think the England bowlers all have their own WhatsApp group where they call the batsmen *****?

Fckn awful! Can't remember the last time England got to a ton without being down to middle/lower order.

Could be worse, a year ago we were 27 for 9 in New Zealand. Still may not make the 58 though.

Always thought Hales was discarded too quickly to be honest.

Pathetic as always from England batsmen. Not helped by the usual pathetic warm up matches against some pub team.
Also the burying the head in the sand selection. Bairstow isn’t a test number three, I was amazed how the so called experts went over the top when he scored a century in the last test in Sri Lanka. They spent all of last summer critising Bairstow saying he was batting too high in the order and was no better than a test number seven then after one good innings at number three they suddenly decide he is the answer to England’s problem at three. Jennings is the same yes he plays spin OK but he has got real problems against pace. If he still is in the side come the Ashes reckon he will struggle to buy a run in that series. Burns I would probably stick with least give him couple of matches at home see how he does but it isn’t looking too promising for him at the moment.

A lot of focus will be on England's selection and performance of the batsmen but credit to the Windies. This has been fantastic from them.

78! absolutely shocking. Good bowling, but you'd think the English batsman had never seen pace bowling. Crap warm ups, mean they get caught like a deer in headlights, when the bowling gets ramped up.

Before the game a number of people couldn't understand leaving Broad out, not that it would have made much difference to the batting but it's a fair bet he'd have done a fair bit better than Curran managed with the ball. They are talking about Curran as if (going forward) he's a batsman first and 4th bowler after that but I'm not sure that's how cherub face sees it. How the fuck do you leave Broad out for someone who's going to be considered to be a second or third change bowler.

I am not a fan of him being captain. Never have been. I think he's two degrees from the left of being useless at the job, but to be fair, he does say the right things which seems to go a very long way.

I was going to say I feel sorry for the thousands who spent a lot of money going to watch that but TBF if you follow England, that's what you have to expect.

I don't think I'll have a go at Sam Curran just yet. Man of the Series against India, he's had one bad innings with ball and bat. Not his fault he was picked ahead of Broad. Give the kid a chance ffs.

oooooh :D

It's not Curran's fault and it surprises me that you saw what I said as 'having a go'. I stand by what I said, the selection is the issue here. If you're going to pick a bowler in front of someone with 400+ test wickets he should be a 'proper' front line strike bowler and not someone who the experts widely see as a future 'change' bowler with batting as his main forte. Personally I'd have not played two spinners and played Curran instead of either one.
