whether we win ashes or not, we have batted poorly as a team in this series
The odd good innings apart, we have been largely awful and Cook owes us some runs at the moment. Mind you, I would be happy if they sacked him as captain, he is just so negative!

yep, the odd individual makes a good score, but so many batsmen underperforming...cook, trott, bairstow, prior...bar a hundred each, kp and root have hardly been reliable either

I am genuinely gutted by some of the comments I'm reading (not necessarily in here), seeming like there is some kind of sympathy for the Aussie's plight.

Fuck em, if the boot was on the other foot, they'd be sitting there with their fingers up at us, laughing their merry little heads off. Swings and fucking roundabouts. I hope it pisses down, for the rest of the day, then every day for the following two tests. The Ashes are the most important thing.

I just want you to know that although I gave you only one winner rating, that I did press the button at least ten times.

So many times the rain would fcuk us over the years....as far as I'm concerned this is payback...just want us to beat Australia, simple...in a way this will make it even more funny...they outplay us and yet still can't win...it will drive them nuts

Dunno yet. I'm a bit pissed off because I need to book things pretty soon but its pending other stuff which I can't hurry :(

Sounds like a commitment issue to me...if you really wanted to drink beer on Boxing Day in 30 odd degree heat, singing stupid songs with the barmy army then you would...

"It's a lottery to predict, but Australia will be hoping for about 40 more overs - if they can get rid of Bell or Root and get into Bairstow, Prior and the rest, they'll fancy their chances. One more wicket opens it up. But I hope the mentality of the England team is that they'd rather draw this game, and win the Ashes, through playing cricket rather than relying on rain."

Alec Stewart - Former England Captain.

ALEC - I HOPE THEY SIT THERE WITH THEIR COCKS IN HAND, SHIRTS OFF AND HATS WITH CORKS DANGLING DOWN SINGING WALTZING FUCKING MATILDA WHILE WATCHING THE RAIN PISS DOWN.

I think the team needs to be seriously looked at, despite us being 2-0 up. The Aussies can only get better once they identify who the most talented of their bunch are and actually play a settled team and I am concerned for the winter series. We have been playing average/mediocre cricket for ages now, and last couple of years have been heavily reliant on Cook and Trott to bat well at the start, and Anderson and Swann to fire when bowling.

- Don't see any upside to Cook being captain at the moment. After the India series it now seems to be affecting him. And his captaincy itself is pretty rubbish and unimaginative.

- All batsmen are too inconsistent. Bell has found form at last but the rest are struggling.

- Prior has dipped in form this year.

- Real problem with the 4th seamer, stuck with Finn for ages who is woeful in my opinion. Bresnan worked for one game but they should have been ruthless for this game and gone with Tremlett, pitch would suit him far more with varying bounce. I don't even think Broad can be relied on either...

such a stupid argument from alec stewart...if final day is rained off, we will have reclaimed the ashes by winning the first two tests...no-one can be sure Australia would have bowled us out today (even though we were batting like sh*t)

Agree with most of that, not so Prior, you've only got to go back to March and he was filling his boots against New Zealand, I'm convinced his is nothing more than a bad run of scores, still back him to make a score in this series. Agree about the bowling front though, Broad took his 200th wicket in this match, only the second slowest bowling from England to do it. For me, having him opening the bowling is a worry, and Bresnan is a partnership breaker, but he doesn't bowl overly tightly for me and isn't going to run through a side.

Cook's captaincy is a worry, we're back to the unimaginative Atherton type days where the hands go in the pockets after 15 overs without a wicket. Hoping it's a learning curve though.

Sorry I was including Prior's glovework as well, Bear. I'm not getting to see a huge amount of each day but from what I have seen, and heard on TMS, a lot of 'failed to hold the half chance' and 'missed stumpings' etc. I think he could be doing better than he is in this aspect of his game, little bit sloppy (ooh err).

Yeah I agree with that, he's never been the best gloveman but he did improve quite dramatically at one point. He's pretty tidy standing back but I've seen better standing up to the spinners.
