agree with the above - draw/India win was always fav over the england win.

the embarrassing part will be the manner of completely collapsing again. although it happens so often it's no surprise.

Same old players as well who keep getting dropped then recalled without doing anything in the long form of the game to justify being recalled!

It just shows the sad current state of county cricket that no one seems to be doing enough to justify getting called in to the team ahead of the likes of Bairstow, Ali, Buttler.

Even the players who do come through and are given a chance massive question marks about them still Pope and Hameed. They both at times look the part but other times look completely out of their depth.

don't have a problem with giving Pope and Hameed a longer chance.

my main issue is the dropping an recalling players who have had chances and clearly aren't goof enough.

but that says more about the state of the county championship game than anything.

Fully agree they both deserve abit more time especially Hameed who has only just come back into the side. Pope has had prior to being dropped after the New Zealand series quite a run in the team without doing much to suggest he has mentality to handle battling at test level. However when you see him bat like he did in first innings feel he is worth sticking with as definitely a player there.

yea, not sure what it is with Pope. needs to start improving although you can see he has class. I suppose Ian Bell took his time to come good.

the cupboard is really bare though, and will be until the ECB treat the County Championship with the same respect and interest they give to limited overs cricket. i've previously voiced my opinion on what needs to happen, but don't think the ECB care enough to make the required changes.

Virat Kohli is a prick. I've even seen articles by Indian journalists criticising him for overdoing it when he gives it the big one. I was going to say a dickhead of David Warner proportions but that's going too far.

It was a big ask today but it’s the hope that kills you, but I guess being a Spurs fan hardens you to that!.
Nothing against India - they are a top side, but I just can’t stand Kholi. He has all the hallmarks of a spoilt kid with the mind of a child. My guess is he came from a well heeled Indian family and has never had to grow up properly - ‘Little Buddhas’ as they are referred to in Asia.

England had this match in the bag on the first day. Abysmal fielding on the part of the slips and the wicketkeeper let Thakur get a 50 and move India close to 200.

I love the aggression from Kohli and the Indian players. At least they haven't yet resorted to shoving opposition players in the pavilion like Saint Jimmy.

quite right. it's quite right that the batsmen are criticised for this shambles of an innings, but the fielding and letting Thakur get to 50 was dreadful. the batting in the first innings was, once again not great too.

I see two ex England openers in Robson and Stoneman are flying for Middlesex today, 315-0.

Robson 150*
Stoneman 147*

Just looked it up (Wiki) and he is the son of a lawyer so not exactly a street kid. Don’t want to get into character assassinations and it doesn’t always follow, as what matters is how you are brought up and the values you learn. I just find him obnoxious that’s all - it is possible to play hard and act with class, but he hasn’t learnt that yet.

TBF i've seen him act with class on a number of occasions. But he's also pushed the boundaries a number of times too, so much so that the editor of Wisden in India took him to task for it. He's becoming known for it which is why I almost compared him to that **** extraordinaire, Warner.

We all love to win but he pushes it too far at times, if it carries on, he and his team are in danger of heading the way Australia did although they have got to go some to overtake that lot :D
