And something else that occurs too (I'm a bit slow so it's probably been mentioned somewhere) but if we carry on playing like this and getting involved in 'classic' series and games, we might also slowly start to change the way test cricket is played all over the world. I know we've had teams that have been capable, or done similar but that's usually been a 'now and then' thing or by absolutely exceptional teams. It the positivity catches on, the 'traditional' way of playing test matches starts to change somewhat and is actually genius. We can't find orthodox test match batsmen, so throw that out the window and larrup the ball all over the place, take technique out of it to an extent. haha
I'd go one further A&C it'll be the saving of it. I've been thinking we're on "borrowed time" re Tests. My 10 yr old loves the one day stuff. He's sat through this series with me all the way through. That's a first.

What a shame, what a captain, what a player. He must feel like it's the right time for him and the team but it would have been nice for him to at least play the cotchel of 20/20's and ODI's we've got coming up in July and done a farewell tour, but I suppose he feels the next guy needs those as prep for the WC in Oct or Nov.

as ever with him, a selfless action for the better of the team. gives Buttler some more captaincy games under his belt, and gives another batsman a run in the side.

Just found out that Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt got married last month. After South Africa’s Dane van Niekerk–Marizanne Kapp and New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu–Amy Satterthwaite they become the third prominent cricket couple to marry.

Congratulations to them

A shame to hear of Morgan's retirement from international cricket. Fair to say he was transformational as a captain, and as a batsman. Deserved a more high profile departure, but I'm not sure he'd have wanted that anyway.

I can see him back as the one-day manager/coach in the next 5 years, either here or elsewhere.

Good luck to Buttler in the role - big boots to fill.

Kumar giving a very nice Eulogy (if you will) for Eoin Morgan on Sky! Only when is really spelt out like he just has, do you realise the impact Eoin Morgan has had on all formats of English cricket. Big loss, but Buttler is a perfect replacement. Hopefully Morgs will be around the England white ball squads going forward.

Stokes ?

there's a big difference between what he is doing and what Bairstow is doing. Bairstow is playing proper shots, waiting for the right ball and hitting gaps.

Stokes is just slogging merrily and chucking his wicket away again.

Well that was some incredibly irresponsible batting from Stokes! Get dropped, play same shot next ball this time out! I'm not sure this 'bazball' approach of just try and tw@t everything is right! Yes, be aggressive, but they seem to put no value on their wicket!

Bairstow has it right.

Stokes is just aimlessly slogging.

I haven't watched any of the last 2 days due to travelling, but listened to TMS yesterday.
Couldn't believe what was going on with the Broad over or that we keep on with the short pitched approach to tailenders.
Also that Stokes seems over the last few matches to have abandoned the idea of playing himself in & just comes in and starts trying to hit every ball to the boundary from ball one.

I don’t mind the Stokes approach :D It doesn’t matter who it is, when they play like this and get out there’s always going to be criticism of the shot.

Bairstow has been getting it right but then again Bairstow is in the form of his life, you can’t say the same about Stokes.

If you look at the big picture, how do we think we’d do playing orthodox cricket? Not very well at all I reckon. This innings, poor shots or whatever is the price you pay for being so positive.

Having said that, we have to remember that it’s all very new and maybe there’s too much enthusiasm for it so I feel that as they go on they’ll realise that there’s a balance to be struck.

Great game so far!
