First time since match 1939 that England have had two centurions or more in the 4th innings of a test.
The thing is this was done at a canter. Given how long was left and wickets in hand they could have chased down 500+ at the rate they were going.

Well done England.

Mental how good we are at test cricket at the moment. Some turnaround.

India fell right off that cliff.

At the rate they were going (120 runs in an hour) they could have scored several hundred more and theoretically chased almost anything. I know it doesn’t work like that but you wouldn’t rule out them chasing 500+ on the right pitch the way things are going

Well yeah, but you'd have to take into account the new ball and that runs would have inevitably slowed and possibly wickets taken but who knows what they could have chased down.

The issue I see going forward though is teams won't declare against us now unless they are so far in front they can't be caught, meaning possibly more draws. We really need to work out how to play like this in the first innings of matches.

Bairstow is on another level right now.

a couple of months ago it was "should he even be in the side" now he's one of the first names on the team sheet.
It's all about attitude from the top. Pope got a duck, but nobody cares, everyone is talking about the lads who scored big. 12 months ago we'd all be wondering where we're going to find a decent no. 3 and agonising about his failure. There'll be plenty of ducks with this new style, but the players now believe they have permission to fail every now and then, which sets them free to play.

Credit needs to go to Lees and Crawley 100 partnership set up the win..imo

I think you only have to look at Lees and Crawly to see the mindset. They'll be forgotten like you say with Bairstow and Root doing what they did, but they set the tone and put the Indian bowlers on the back foot from the off. They scored over a 100 between them. Crawley had a S/R of 60 and Lees had a S/R of over 86 that's not what opening batsmen against this India pace attack should be batting at in the first hour of play with the new ball.

We are going to lose some games quite badly playing this way, but my word we'll win many others in quite brilliantly exciting fashion.

Have had a quick look on HowSTAT, but couldn't find the answer to this: What is the highest scoring partnership to win a Test match? Not the highest in the Test per se, but the one that takes the winners over the line. Because that 269 from Root and Bairstow must be right up there.

Six months ago you'd never believe England were capable of these last few performances. I imagine this style will eventually lead to some catastrophic innings but at least they'll be balanced out by the fantastic ones.
