We see shothousery in football every week, why’s it an issue in cricket - I genuinly don’t get the issue with it tbh

it is very difficult thing to understand if you've not played or watched much - there's just some un-written, ettiquette type stuff in cricket, that although there have to be rules in place for, are still either just not the done thing.

hard to equate to other sports.

Not giving the ball back after the opposition kick it out for an injury, then scoring? Trying to think of an equivalent, it's legal just it's not right.

I’ve waited a few hours to digest what happened, see all the various takes, some of which are valid enough, some are deflection and frustration.
Bottom line; if you don’t want to get stumped, stay in your crease. Switch on and stay switched on; this is the highest level of contest and frankly, not the first lapse of concentration from Bairstow this month.
I don’t believe for a second that we’d have reversed the decision, it’s not a friendly on the village green FFS. Did we tell Broad to walk off when he middled one to the keeper a few years back? Did we fuck! They all know the laws of the game, it’s a valid method of dismissal. It’s happened, we need to stop playing the victim and move on. Let it fuel us if we truly feel hard done by, but i sense they’re protecting their mate rather than feeling too aggrieved.
We’ve lost another close one; on to the rest of the series.

the example you cite with broad is different, that is a decision for the umpire to make which is why he is there. This is about the spirit and application of decades of established practice and etiquette on the cricket field.

When it happened my gut feeling was that Stokes would have Called him back and he confirmed as much. It’s about the character of the individual and Stokes is just not like that, oaky hard but play fair. I hope he changes for the next three tests now.

Head & Carey in, Bairstow has a shy at the stumps, last afternoon of a test match, with 150 to win…we’d have called them back? I’m not so sure. VERY easy to claim you would after the fact

Let's all spare a thought for Khawaja and 'Davey' Warner who had to endure the sharp words and 'Physical Contact' from a few 60 yr olds desperately trying not to drop their prawn sandwiches, they are the real victims here.

It's gone from back to worse, Leonard, Derek and Keith have been suspended by the MCC.

Keith has released a statement of his own, 'Whilst I regret the language used towards 'Davey', he is a massive helmet'.

It most certainly spices things up for the next test match especially as cricket on a whole in this country doesn’t get a look in most of the time. The best thing for this series is that the next one is on Thursday.

It’s a shame that the series isn’t live on the BBC, you never know if it goes 2-2 into the 5th test Sky might share it with them. It’s a weird series which has the potential to be the greatest series.

Might be unpopular with England cricket fans but Anderson and Robinson need to get dropped for the next one: bring in the youngster Potts and the quick Wood.

I don't want cricket to go the same way as football where cheating is routine and actually appreciated by some knobs.

Potts has been released from the squad so it won't be him.

Wood has surely got to play though.

Well not really if that’s your character. All subjective and irrelevant now but I believe stokes when he said he wouldn’t have done that

Good test, Stokes incredible, Bairstow run out was harsh and ruined our chances.

Hope we win the next test to keep things interesting.

Absolutely, historically this would be a dead series now but I don’t believe this one’s over yet.

Pott’s been released but definitely have Wood back for Jimmy. Robinson is leading wicket taker in both sides and Broad is undroppable in an ashes. He’s loving this and it brings another 10% to his game

I’m in two minds. History only remembers the winners.. “Baz-Ball” is great for generating interest but the purists will tell you it’s just not cricket. Similarly, Carey’s stumping today, while in the laws of the game, generates conversation, but is it in the purists version of being just not cricket?

It’s the ashes and it’s competitive. I’m not convinced if the roles were reveresed that Stokes would have called back the Aussie batsman.

Anyway, 2 great tests that have come down to inches.. hopefully the rest of the summer is as entertaining!

Think Potts has only just returned to action. That's a big risk with Wood and Stokes in the bowling attack too. Wood can come in, but I'd 100% retain Broad for this one. If there's one player that is going to be up for a monster spell of 7-18 or something ridiculous, it's Stuart Broad.

I can't believe people are actually arguing this. The square leg umpire was moving to his position for the next over and had turned away from the game.

I feel bad for Jimmy Anderson as you can tell he has run out of gas, understandably at 41. Broad has been immense. Always liked Wood as a guy and fast bowler. It’s so frustrating that both Wood and Archer have had their injury problems as with those two I reckon things could be even closer. Having two bowlers at 94 plus clicks I feel would make the difference. Also for the future Rehan Ahmad is one to watch.

I wonder if they'll risk Ali?

Broad and Robinson will both play, would not be at all surpised to see Jimmy dropped - he really is looking his age in the field now.

Woakes and Wood for Jimmy and Tongue, unless they decide to play a spinner I reckon. I'm disappointed they've released Ahmed to be honest.

I wonder if they’re protecting Rehan Ahmed, especially for the winter. For me, they should give him a go, what a way to make a name for yourself: he certainly did vs Pakistan in the winter.

I think Tongue should now be a shoe in, sadly drop Jimmy and bring in Wood. Broad is fired up and has 7 more wickets to get to 600th test wicket. I know Robinson has his wickets but also looks rusty. Also if Pope is injured who will they bring in? Move Bairstow up the order and get Foakes?

I would drop Anderson for the next one for Wood, and play Broad. The test after that is Old Trafford, and so Anderson can come back for his home test refreshed (and also, as a side note as I've mentioned before, possibly the Test he might consider to be his last). Broad then might get a rest hopefully in preparation for a winner takes all final.

Add Mahmood and Olly Stone to that list too, all 4. Bowl consistently 90mph+. I said the other day that I’d you took 4 of the Aussie quicksand out how would they cope?
