Do Broad and Anderson come out to bat in the morning?
Personally don't think they should. We have little to gain and a lot to lose if one of them gets pinned by Starc with the new ball. The draw is useless to us anyway and it sounds like we'll lose a bit of play Monday. If Australia score 377, fair play to them, but personally I don't think they will.

how great to pick his time and go out while he's bowling brilliantly.

always leave them wanting more.

what a great career, what a great player. thanks Broady.

Yep. He's going to end up on that Sky team I reckon, he's very comfortable in front of the Camera. Lots of banter-able material too.

In my opinion I think they should, if they can push the lead to 400 that is another psychological blow. A three digit score to win it with a 4 at the front of the total sounds more difficult than one with a 3 at the start of it.

Do I think they will get a lead of 400 ? No, I can't see Broad and Anderson getting another 23 but I think they should give it a go swinging the bat at a few.

I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see them walk out for Broady's guard of honour, and then to be called straight back in.

Oh fuck! Absolutely didn't see that coming. Genuinely thought he was going to keep going for a couple of years. Amazing career, and a genuine England all time great.

Mind you, Moeen Ali retired from Test cricket once too. I'd probably block Stoke's number if I were him.

Not to make this about Jimmy but I do think if he wasn’t still running in at 41 years of age, people would sort of expect Broad to be retiring after this series. Jimmy has made 37 look very young. Incredible longevity from the pair of them who give absolutely everything to this England side.

It will be very interesting to see how Stokes rebuilds England’s bowling attack with Broad retiring, Jimmy not being far off and Stokes himself looking like his knee can’t take the stress of bowling anymore.

8 for 15. One of the best spells. Well deserved, Broad.
Good times

Genuinely gutted and quite emotional about this! He could've easily gone on and think he's actually performing above Jimmy at the moment.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense for him. I doubt he'd have gone to India, and the home tests next year are Sri Lanka and West Indies. He's become synonymous with the Ashes and I think it fitting to end his career by having David Warner caught first slip with the fourth ball tomorrow morning (after swatting Mitchell Starc for three 6's over midwicket)

I really did think it would be Jimmy announcing his retirement, but he seems keen to go on which should get him over 700 Test wickets next summer.

And for a little nostalgia.....

By the way, he also did this at number 9! (Also what a completely crazy innings that was. 102-7 to 434-8, notwithstanding the interesting no-balls)

What a career Broady and probably a great decision to go out while on top. Jimmy looks like he will get a rougher end as the swing has stopped but he doesn’t want to

I'm guessing of course and probably well wide of the mark, but there's a chance that if Oh Jimmy Jimmy (who's 41 today, HB2U) had reached 700 wickets this series, which he'd have expected to, he might have gone too. 700 is a fucking huge carrot and I don't blame him if that is the case.
