Well so far we've gone the other way in that we loan them and hope they do well which leads to a sale we consider acceptable. It's not the worst strategy but it clearly hasn't had the desired effect so far. At some point we need to realise this and just let them go for whatever we can get.

I went to a boot sale the other week as all my suits and a load of other clothes all suddenly shrank at the same time….
I sold about half the clothes for about £70 and on the way out, I swung past a Cash for Clothes unit and sold the rest for £1.40…because I have no use for them anymore, so just wanted rid no matter the price. They would have gone to a charity shop otherwise.
Wish Levy could show similar pragmatism

the problem with your analogy is that your clothes had no say on who they were sold to. We have the problem where we need clubs to agree to buy the players and the players will actually need to agree to go. This also applies to cancelling contacts, it has to be an agreement between club and player. There are massive downsides for a player to be without a club for any length of time, not least the lack of training, medical treatment and rehab etc. So they will probably need to be confident of a new club if they were to agree to cancel contact with the club.

This strategy wouldn't explain why we've been so bad at shifting unwanted players who've got a year left though. I know there's been a mini renaissance of sorts with Sanchez, but both him and Dier both have a year left. You'd think Levy would be desperate to get a few quid for them before they leave on frees. You'd also think he'd be happy to let Lloris find a club for free knowing he won't want to pay wages. Yet all of them are still here.

I don't think there's a method to it tbh. Levy will be treating it the same way he's treated the Kane deal and that doesn't work when clubs will likely have a long list of better value alternatives. Occasionally it pays off like getting £10m for Winks, but most of the time it doesn't.

It just seems to be if the dogmatic asking price is not paid then the player stays until panic sets in with hours to go.

More information from Dragon 1 on COYS

Daniel is more sensitive over wages than transfer fees

incomings will depend heavily on shifting Tanguy who is on 200k a week , Loris 100k and Sanchez 80k a week

get movement on them then we may have one or max two buys

That 100m has been lost down the back of the sofa obviously.

Good to see priority is shifting a player of use like Dav over Dier due to wages. Profit over points it is

I would think Dier would be on a comprable deal to Sanchez tbh. It’s more likely that it’s just that there’s interest in Sanchez, Whereas we’ve heard Dier doesn’t want to leave until next summer.

Opinion. Well we know how that could end then…

It's all about the bottom line and not sporting performance and that's my issue here.

Really surprised Hugo is still here above all of the others.
I would've thought he would have wanted a fresh start.
His and other players wages need to be got off the books and new blood in before September.
Yet again the tough rebuild has ground to a stunning halt! Here is hoping for movement both ways.

If it was solely about wages they'd have been gone months ago with the exception of Tanguy.

I must admit that if someone told me that we were going to sell Kane and not seriously look for some kind of replacement, be it a new quality winger or an alternative striker, I wouldnt have believed it. How is it possible to sell your star without even giving the impression that you are doing it while also showing intent by getting some name that shows hunger and ambition. Quite remarkable. Even factoring in the way we have learnt to know Levy, I wouldnt have thought that could be the case.

So even though information seemingly suggesting thats the way it might develop, I still hope that we will bring in some quality in the forward positions, anything else would be madness. So far we have sold Kane and brought in Solomon as a free transfer + a young boy (hopefully a big talent with a great future) that the manager has felt the need to stress will not be involved in the first part of the season.

How so? Nobody said it is solely about wages, D1 said he's more sensitive about wages than fees which isn't the same thing.

Should have known that the influx of new posts was just the same people saying the same things about Levy again.
Current cycle we're stuck in:

1. We get ITK that Levy is hurting the club in some way.

2. We get people giving out that Levy is hurting the club.

3. We get people giving out about the people giving out about Levy hurting the club.

4. Silence for a few days.

5. We get ITK that Levy is hurting the club in some way.

I think we all know that there's only one possible thing that could break this cycle, but unfortunately it looks like that's not going to be happening anytime soon.
So until then we're all just Bill Murray.
