I know I'm pessimistic but I can feel this window slipping away ie; no ms or mm. And so far all we have really added to our squad is a left back that I didn't notice was on many teams must haves. If Poch is happy with sherwoods squad lets hope he finishes higher than him.

Without knowing the lad's character it's difficult to anticipate, however footballers offered big moves with significantly higher wages and an agent in his ear tend to behave the same.
He's not someone where that would happen. He's a massive fan favorite for not only the Sounders but to the USMNT. He would get a lot of criticism if he did something like that and it would be silly for him or his agent to do so. Also, American based agents aren't that bad except for a select few in other sports.

I really want us to sign MM and MS but for me we've already made the best signing of all.

Pochettino.

So I'm hopeful regardless but getting those two would be incredible IMO.

While it makes for an exciting close to the window, saving our business for the last day sounds incredibly dangerous. It's not as though we are just looking to add quality just about anywhere, either. We have what I could consider to be a couple of necessary additions which almost takes the "looking for a deal on just about anyone" out of our hands as teams will know we need a CB, LWF, etc.

It's so easy to say "just get the sales/buys done now" and I would obviously advocate for that if it's at all possible, but willingly leaving business to the last day is far too risky for a club that has needs and those needs can go a long way to making the squad complete.

No chance - he's got a VERY good chance of winning the MLS title with Seattle at the moment.
He's also playing in front of 55,000 per home game, so why walk away now??

Come on, it's a massive step up you can't pick and choose when a move like this comes up, if we want him to come now and he doesn't, I doubt it will happen at all

No, he really isn't.

He's a decent RB at this level and actually is pretty experienced now. Plenty of years ahead of him to.

The naughton bashing is based on him playing at left back. He is actually a decent right back

Well, the Deadline Day thread will be epic then. We haven't had a big deadline day since Summer 2012. That day was good and bad at the same time...
Come on you know we all secretly love the drama of hanging on until an hour after the deadline to see who we got.

On a realistic note if everyone thinks Poch is happy with what he has got and we will not pay over the odds then perhaps they will deal earlier in their own interests. You only wait as a seller if you think you are going to get more by waiting

rather than price as ITK says, I personally think the sole reason for last minute deals is that we simply cannot afford to bring more players in without getting rid of some current players due to a massively oversized first team squad.

What's all this "If Yedlin wants it enough" stuff? Where did that come from? I could fully understand Spurs going in with the softly, softly approach and selling him our club (he was rumoured to be off to Roma after all), and telling him "Of course we'd like you to finish your season and win your silverware. Then come to us".

I'm not convinced anyway that Walker won't be playing next weekend. He has been training after all, although I don't know at what level. I haven't seen any ITK or injury update on him - was there some? (y)

[Edit] - before anybody answers the second bit, I now see there is some in the press. Apologies on that one.

For the Levy tactics to work teams need to see and know that we will walk away from deals if they push us too far.

I think that a few of past failed transfers were with this in mind.

Look at Damiao what did they get in the end?

Where did this notion of add ons for Soldado come from? The UK media are at odds with the spanish media who at the time clearly reported that soldado's fee is staggered across 3 years of 8 to 9m but they're fixed. Think about it logically, why on earth would Valencia make such a large percentage of their star player's fee performance related? Doesn't make sense to me.

Naturally I'd like the add on theory to be true but I doubt it.

Not true, everyone knew Valencia needed the cash and it was effectively a way of saving the president face by making it sound like we agreed the buy out which technically we did but half the fee was in add ons much of the add ons stacked very much in our favoiur and unlikely to be achieved. The reported price was simply a face saving exercise

Think about it, City not known for skimping on price paid £16 mill plus £4 mill in add ons for Negredo a striker with very similar goal record and 9 months younger. Daniel Levy known for squeezing the last nickels and dimes out of a deal and then demanding a discount and you think he agreed £26 mill up front no add ons?

It wasn't Sherwoods squad though was it.. Sherwood did not buy anyone in the January window, so you could really say that Bentaleb is Sherwoods player. Poch will take his time as he has already said this. We have a very good squad of players and as he said yesterday it is also to big of a squad. He wants 25 and we have 32 senior players.

Annoying that no players are seemingly close to departing the club.
Especially Dawson. If he really loves the club, like we think he does, and he knows he doesn't fit in Poch's plans and that we need to shift him in order to upgrade, then he should do the decent thing and move on, for the sake of the club. He won't be out of pocket, as the club will subsidise his wages for the duration of the contract he has with us.

Reveals to me that we don't feel we need any players but are in the market for an equivalent offer, assuming we can move someone along. And also shows how seriously we are taking our own oversized squad. I've never known a Spurs manager admit we're looking to sell before. Either he was seriously off-message and Levy won't be happy or - more likely - he was following agreed policy and we really, REALLY need to sell.

Actually, maybe that's what Levy is doing at the training ground. Carrying out a hit with Franco on Dawson and Vlad. Quick bundle into a hessian sack and sling them on the night train to Sunderland.
I think the big business this year will be players out rather than in.

I don't think there are any worries about having too many players. No doubt Poch wants to see players and see who arrives before arranging loans , but no doubt a number of potential loan deals have been discussed and we should easily place a few players
