£4m is fine.

He's not got a squad number. Other clubs know this, and also he's in the last year of his contract. That at least halves his value right there.

Clubs shluldnt offer that much for him now though. Thats the problem. 4m is robbery at this point. We have to take whatever we can get now that Lennon officially has no chance of being back in the squad. We lost all our bargaining power and then some by not giving him a squad number

All true, but my point is that if there are several cubs interested we get some power back and can talk the price up.

If Everton (for example) are the only ones interested it was always going to be difficult to get anything for him. But as AL did well there last season I'm surprised there isn't more interest

I suspect some clubs might have been alerted to Aaron Lennon's availability slightly earlier than the release of the squad numbers. They may have seen some small clues in the fact he got frozen out last season, got sent on loan to Everton, hasn't been involved remotely in pre-season, his agent has been desperately trying to find him a new club, and lastly that we've spent the summer telling every club in Europe that he is for sale.

But yeah. Squad numbers.

I would imagine he's on quite high wages with us ( i.e. too high for the sort of teams who'd be interested). Although Villa seem like they'll throw the cash around, but maybe he doesn't fancy a relegation scrap.

I just pray he doesn't end up at West Ham. I'd find that hard to stomach.

Not many clubs would be willing to match his wage demands.

Yup, for whatever reason think there are only one or two suitors, despite him being obviously available since the end of the season, and hence £4m is the price

4 million is fair price - let him go start a fresh elsewhere. It seems something has gone on behind close doors but this must happen at every club at some point...it happens in all walks of life. He done a Good job over the years so I'll be saying good luck, thanks for the service and move on

Exactly. We are not going to play him which means if he stays then he is simply costing us money.

If several teams are interested they will need to bid and come to a fair price. If only one club is interested then they are in a very strong negotiating position.
Not necessarily true. If for example Everton bid 4 million it doesn't matter if a dozen clubs bid higher if Lennon insists he will only go to Everton then 4 mill is still all we will get.

If someone offers him a three year contract on 80% of his current wages it'll probably be worth a lot more to him in the long run. His advisors know this and also know if he knuckles down and gets playing time they can renegotiate after 12-18 months anyway. If not he's git 3 years lollygagging as opposed to 1 if he stays here.

Personally, I think we're lucky to even get 4m. Quite frankly, IMO, clubs would be quite stupid to even offer that much for him. Yes, he's English but that matters not with this one. We have NO chips to be played here. None. Not even a little. We lost all our bargaining power on both him and Ade when we released the squad numbers and neither were given numbers. Now every single club knows we want them off desperately and that they have been frozen out of the first team completely. Whatever bargaining power we had left is gone now. @Trix is 1000% on the money. We should snap their hands off at 4m for Lennon now. We have to sell him. Otherwise its just paying more wages for someone who has no chance whatsoever to be in the the squad.
Erm there's no such thing as 1000%, just saying.

According to who?

I personally think if we got offered £4mil we would snap their hands off all things considered.

Agreed, he's surplus to requirements, a drain on resources and a bad influence on the club (allegedly). If we turned down that offer (if genuine) then we'd be facing an Ade Mk2 on our hands.

None of the top four would want him and teams regularly finishing below us are not going to spend big money on a player that quite evidently we want to be rid of.

Yeah 4m is low for a TOP winger.

Lennon is not TOP. Lennon never has been TOP. Lennon was a good player but ALWAYS flattered to deceive. Would even float balls into the box that were 3 yards too high for Crouch!!!
Agree with you there, mandingo. We've had Lennon for nearly 10 years. He hasn't really developed at all from what he was when he arrived. Unreliable final ball, hardly scores any himself, and couldn't be arsed to learn to use his left foot.

A lot of his goals for us have been with his left foot

A lot? He's only scored something like 3 a year since he joined :)

Outgoings have gone quiet lately. I would like to see the rest of the unused squad moved on, saves having to do it later.
