There is nothing sadder than checking this thread every 10 minutes instead of working when there's not even anything to read! Makes it pretty hard to justify not doing my work! :(

I think the point this window was to be a lot more relaxed (at least that's what the brief was meant to be) and let this thread flow more.

If Harry's talking about our transfers it either helps to corroborate or dismiss ITK. I'd (personally) say that falls under ITK discussion.

In previous years these threads killed the server hence the need for modding, now the server can easily handle them so we're not restricted and instead it should just be whatever people thinks works best (and the consensus seemed to be from the last window that people enjoyed a big discussion thread).

Thank you! Before i registered to this forum all i kept reading was Rumor Rangers complaining and in the end it just turned into a massive Rumor Ranger complaining thread which was really annoying so cheers for clearing that up.

A bit of inbred whoring.....

Ireland to Villa seems to have hit a snag. From a City ITK (as strange as that sounds ):

Ireland will never play for City again. Only this. He has permission to speak with other clubs, however it's known one particular club aside from Villa, have in last 48 hours registered a firm interest.
What can I say, they think he's a triffic player....
Let's hope it's Villa, eh!

Ireland does not want this Villa move...
I have no clue as to why he is talking, despite this.
I do not know his character, but it would not be the greatest shock in the world if we complete on Milner, yet Ireland remains a sticking point.
He has other options, which appear closed-off to him.
There is also a scenario where he thinks sitting tight for a few months could even argue he will outlast Mancini?
Money talks at the end of the day, and to borrow a phrase from Fbloke, Ireland is at a tipping point.
Villa is a decent proposal, but there is a lot of bad blood to be overlooked.

Cant see it happening.

City wont sell any of their players to us, and on the Villa boards they seem to think its done their end with only Ireland waiting on payment from City for it to go through.

He wants his contract paid up, and a bonus from them as well.

I agree, plenty of us feel player power is often the root of all evil in the game but here are city treating one of the shining lights of their academy and arguably one of their best players like absolute shit to force them out.

Some of the players must be thinking "will this be me next season?"

If Citeh were not selling to us, or refusing to deal with us at all, I dont think Harry could resist commenting on it to the media. He hasnt said a single thing.

I'm sure I read somewhere earlier that he did say City wouldn't sell him to us... hmm..

Storts posted this on COYS....

Redknapp is telling lies by the way. There are far more than just four player targets

in response to this piece....

Harry Redknapp insists opposition from Tottenham fans will not stop him following up his interest in William Gallas.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea centre half, 32, is available as a free agent after being released by Spurs’ north London rivals. But Redknapp says he is not concerned about how Tottenham fans would react to such a controversial move.

He said: ‘I like Gallas. I think he’s a great free transfer. It is a possibility. His people have rung up and we spoke about it.

Gunning for trouble: William Gallas has played for two of Tottenham's London rivals, including Arsenal
'He is an experienced player. He has played at the top level, he won championships with Chelsea.

‘You can go on for ever about the fact he played for Arsenal. He played for Chelsea as well. We put too much importance on that all the time. If he comes in and plays rubbish then the crowd will slaughter him. If he comes in and plays great they will love him. That is football.’

Redknapp says he had a shortlist of five potential signings at the start of the summer, but so far the only player to join Tottenham is Brazil midfielder Sandro.

Incoming: Internacional's Sandro is the only player to have joined Spurs this summer... and he can't play until late September!
One of his targets, Joe Cole, has joined Liverpool, but the other four are available and the Spurs manager remains cautiously optimistic, saying: ‘There were five players on my list, now there are four. We were unlucky — we tried to get Joe (Cole) but we didn’t pull that one off.

‘Now there are four left. If we get three of them, fantastic. If we get two, that’s great. I know who I want and they’re the same ones I wanted at the start. If I can’t get them then I won’t bring anybody in.’

By contrast, Saturday’s opening-day opponents, Manchester City, will have spent more than £100million by the time the transfer window shuts, and have signed high-profile players such as David Silva and Yaya Toure.

That outlay brings added pressure to succeed but Redknapp can see them winning the title in the near future.

He said: ‘They’re the one club that’s expected to challenge and they have to be in the Champions League next year.

‘I can see them winning the title so long as the owner stays with them, which I’m sure he will. If that happens then they will be champions in the next three or four years.’

Redknapp also gave his opinion on David Beckham’s international ‘retirement’ by Fabio Capello, and thinks the 35-year-old midfielder could play in the 2012 European Championship.

The Spurs boss said: ‘I don’t think David will give up. I would never write him off. I think he will come back. He could play at 37 for England.’

It's bizarre how much power Man City have, it's obvious we won't get 1 player from them although I reckon both Ireland and Bellamy would love it at Spurs and I believe both would strengthen our squad.

I think we should ignore them now like they are ignoring us and move onto other targets. Hopefully Spurs haven't been stupid enough to rely on a list of Man City outcasts.

I'm glad Redknapp is lying about there only being '4' targets.

There couldn't possibly be that few. Transfers are so complex with so many things that can go wrong. There might be 4 main targets but there will be plan B's and C's and D's if we ultimately don't get the plan A's.

Hence why we are waiting so long for certain players, if with a couple of days to go we haven't got them still, then there could be a late flurry of signings who were initially secondary targets.

Good stuff!

That was the one position that lead most to squeaky bum time last season

Not the huge signing that most are craving, but the insurance policy that we desperately needed

Cheers Archie

Not necessarily here having signed, apparently...

http://www.spurs.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=7505321

The never ending saga of Croatian keeper Stipe Pletikosa joining Spurs seems to finally be reaching a conclusion one way or the other in the next seven days.

Harry Redknapp has confirmed that the keeper will train with the squad next week and if all goes well the player will sign a season long loan deal from Spartak Moscow. Redknapp said: 'Pletikosa is here with us. He has had a bad knee and will spend a week with us training to see how his knee is. We were looking to take him on loan.

'He is a Croatian national keeper and is a good keeper. We will just see how his knee is. He had a big operation but he feels okay.

'We want to have a look at him for a week and then see if we take him on loan for the season. You need three experienced keepers now.'

With the potential for one of our two established keepers getting injured, the need to have another experienced player is essential. I would assume that Pletikosa would probably take the Back- up role over Cudicini, once he has settled, but after the unconvincing displays from Ben Alnwick and the other keepers not yet ready to step up, if is sensible to add experienced cover and I assume this will end Alnwick`s time at White Hart Lane, as he will surely need regular football to have any sort of decent career in the game.

The settling in period for Pletikosa should be pretty straight forward with three Croatians already at the club, added to the fact that mentally he has been making this move for the last three windows, without success, so hopefully he has learnt the language better that Roman Pavlyuchenko...
