I think this is a point that is often overlooked. I infrequently look at Coloccini and think how much better suited he'd be playing for an Italian club, or indeed the 80s band Europe.

I sometimes think that if he grew a tache that he would be a dead ringer for the lead in some of that dodgy German porn I used to watch as a teenager.

This is interesting from Rafa Hoenigstein, one of the few sports journos I have much time for:

German journalist Raphael Honigstein told ESPN today, "He's [Şahin] got one problem, Luka Modric, the deal is all but done however, both clubs are pushing for Şahin to be included in the deal.

"He's made them both aware that he's not interested in a move to Spurs, he's quite categorical, so they are quite out of the picture as far as he's concerned."

That goes against the supposition that AVB knocked the Sahin deal on the head.

I think that confirms what we heard before. The club themselves might put out a "we didn't want him or AVB didn't fancy him" rather than have a "he rejected us" story floating round. Never sounds good.

I also find half the problem is tht it's exceptionally hard to guage if information has been rehashed or just slow on the uptake which coupled with the bipolar nature of this community, doesn't help no end!

I'm breaking my silence this one time.

1) Rafa. Love the man. He's a true gent. He's a closet Arsenal fan. Not this Bayern only malarkey. He keeps it under wraps, but get enough beers in him and you will discover the truth. And he, like most of you, wants Sahin at one of his clubs. Yes, he would prefer Bayern, but Sahin wouldn't do that. So he'll take his closet club

2) Talked to Uli Hesse about this.

Verbatim, and "below him" was part of my question

Of course that's very tough to answer, but I wouldn't rule it out because Spurs are "below him". The club has a very good reputation and the Premier League is very attractive for almost every player. Of course it would be a step down for him after Real - but where can you go from there and not consider it a step down? Plus, you can't say he's been a raving success at the Bernabeu. So I guess that unless he is determined to give it another try and hope for a better second year, what he'll be looking for when he joins another club is the chance to become a starting player again. And why not at a club like Spurs?
Thus.....Liverpool or Spurs stand a fine chance of getting him. Arsenal is the least likely destination.

That being said, it doesn't mean Rafa is wrong and Uli is right. Just that the statements we are seeing, aren't as forthright as is being portrayed.

Cheers.

Best of luck this year.

Could you just elaborate on the first paragraph. Is Rafa, VDV ? Is he the closet Arsenal fan or Sahin. And when you say "at one of his clubs" what do you mean ? Are you saying Sahin wouldn't go to Bayern (because of his former ties with Dortmund) ?

Why don't you post on here any more ?

Cheers for the info DP and it's a shame you've relinquished posting duty as you were always one of the better posters on this forum.

It's not VDV it's Honigstein he's referring to FFS!

Sure he could have worded that clearer but follow the story people!

The 'rafa' in question is rafael Honigstein, I think, not our Rafa! So because he's a closet gooner he'd prefer Sahin to go there than come to us.
