Calm before the storm?

Thank you very much!

1) Lessons learnt - Check
2) Calm before the storm - Check
3) Players out before they can come in - Check
4) Levy's final day wheelbarrow moment -

On the ITK, does anyone think that this quiet period is because we're negotiating or that we're struggling to find better alternatives?

I think it is quiet because it is quiet. Unless we can pull off remarkable deals, or deals we really, really want, I think there will only be outgoings for the rest of July.

I think we were hoping/ expecting to sign Schneiderlin- he was our number one target around which our strategy revolved- and his going to utd has been a serious setback to our plans.

thats simply not true, especially for those we would consider our direct competitors for our stated aim of top 4 - financial restrictions being a reason why but to say we dont take longer than others is just incorrect.

I could be wrong now, haven't double-checked but I think:
Arsenal have signed 1
Chelsea have signed 3, one being a backup keeper
City have signed 2
United - 4
Liverpool have signed everyone available
Spurs - 3

I'd say we've had a good window so far. I'm thankful we're not doing the Liverpool thing and I'd only say United have a better window than us so far. Gutted about MS, would have loved him, but it was suggested in all ITK that it would be a difficult one without CL.

Edit - forgot about Raheem to City. 2 they have.

I would say we moved on as soon as he made that champions league statement and utd declared an interest. I wouldn't be surprised if we sign a dm in the next two weeks. We probably are already in talks and I wouldn't be surprised if there is more itk on this in the next few days.

We need a marquee signing, for the club, players and supporters. Everything has been a bit meh since the magnificent 7.

To be fair Daniel Levy did say in his interview last week that we should expect more transfer activity but not straight away necessarily, and hinted it may be much later in the window. Doesn't stop me trawling the internet though when I could be doing something useful...

It is true but as it's not ITK I will not explain the reasons why here.

With the season only 3 weeks away,I'm actually getting a tad bit worried. I really want to believe the Levy's learned his lesson spiel (like I do every window) but I'm starting to think this could be another last minute type of transfer window. Surely he realise we need a dm and a striker, and how important preseason is to implement the coaches ideas. Please prove be wrong and assuage my fears.

And I bet you also wouldn't be surprised if there is no movement or ITK either?

Bit flippant of me I know, but yes fingers crossed. Hopefully the club is keeping everything under wraps for now and we will suddenly have just about secured the services of a player right out of the blue. Whether it's one of those already mentioned or someone totally off the radar.

My great hope is still the old ITK about a fist teamer and someone who will really add to the squad positively.

You can't force a player to come to the club.

A marquee signing from the table that every team City, United, Arse and Chavs dine at will either be a past their best galactico or a young starlet who may come good, both of which have massive risks.

We could offer wealth beyond the dreams of avarice but a marquee signing would still want the guarantee of playing Champions league football and not giving us a try in the hopes of dragging the team into the top four. Natural growth based on pragmatic signings that strengthen the squad is the way to develop the squad into a team that can realistically challenge.

(sorry for posting Mr A&C, just couldn't leave that codswollop go unchallenged)

I couldn't give a shit about signings. I'm much more interested in seeing a team that displays consistent and coherent tactics, that could be a team of new £20m signings or 11 randoms plucked out of the crowd for all I care. That's how we improve.

How is it quiet?

We've made our record signing ever for a defensive player in the last 7 days

We've got 5 new players in our senior squad since last season (including Alli and Pritchard)

There's 7.5 weeks till the transfer deadline, and 85% of transfer happen in the final 2 weeks

And none of our 3 squad gaps (CF cover, LWF competition, CM competition) are likely to go straight into the first 11 anyway

I can promise you all that the summer transfer window sails by much quicker when one doesn't loiter around in here.

Watching your phone/laptop every 45 seconds for ITK is akin to checking your phone every 45 seconds to see if that girl you gave your number to has messaged you.

It makes the time drag and it's normally something underwhelming when it happens.
