Old Benjamin could refer to Big Ben- it is an iconic London structure. Therefore the 'I' could refer to London, Londons Calling (Clash Lyric).

So London keeps calling this player; a player we have been interested in for a while? A player we have tried to get before? But couldn't convince him...?

So, having researched cryptic clues in crosswords ...

"Poor old Benjamin .... " = the old suggests an ancient alternative word for Benjamin = "Binyaamem"

"keep calling him" = redial,

“… but he doesn’t hear me” = suggests a homophone of redial = 'reed aisle' = river?

"..who has done a really good job of fixing him.” = suggests there is an anagram to solve. no idea where Dr Ross comes into it.

I bet Trix is killing himself laughing at all these attempts to solve this one!

Sven means 'young man'. The cryptic refers to Old Ben. Could be Lars Bender. He is the eldest of the 2 by a few minutes.

Old Benjamin is in reference to Benjamin Button who although old appears to get younger. It's Teddy Sheringham. He would still do better than Adebayor too.
