Let me be the first to say that all I know about him is Madrid bought him and he's barely played. Never seen him play, not even for one minute.....

.....so suffice to say on that basis, get in! would be the signing of the century!

In all seriousness, Madrid don't tend to buy shit players. What sort of CM is he?

Especially since JJ double winked it. Yes it was vague, and annoyed a&c, but there could be hope with this one.

So Illarremndi has played 59 league matches over the past two campaigns and 90 overall. Did they buy somebody that would make a move imminent. Because why would a guy who is 25 and starting for Real Madrid move to anybody? I imagine I'm just missing a bit of info.

They are signing Kovacic. They also have Casemiro, Isco, Lucas Silva, Modric and Kroos? They are pretty stacked in the midfield area.

I'm not saying he wouldn't come here, and I'm not arguing that there's mutual interest.
I'm just saying that, personally, I think he will still end up at Liverpool.
They may make a bigger offer financially in terms of a transfer fee and wage packet.
I'm glad he's apparently going to weigh up his options, as anyone in their right mind would do so.
Aren't Liverpool well stocked in that area? What he'd get with us is a midfield built around him, allowing him to develop as a player. I think if Poch really wants him and he fits in with Poch's template we saw at Southampton then we might make an attractive financial offer.

Illaramendi would be perfect. Great cryptic @Trix and great to hear the interest is mutual.

I just can't for the life of me see why Liverpool would be in for him. They have Henderson (captain on high wages), Milner (new signing on massive wages), Emre Can (big potential), Joe Allen (manager fave) and Lucas (may be leaving). They started the season with Can on the bench in a 4-2-3-1. If they go 3 man or diamond Coutinho and Lallana come in to play. Just makes no sense to me...

Cheers @Trix and @Archibald&Crooks , an amusing day at work thanks to this thread. It's what it should always be like.

Nice one.

Of course if he doesnt sign permanently this evening, i'm going to fucking hate you....

Illaramendi would be a superb acquisition for the club and one I really hope we can get over the line.

It all depends on Levy if he supports his manager. Period.

Show the motivation to sign him, I think we have a chance rather than play hardball and we have some options to go 4321..

Plus.....who has a special relationship with Real Madrid? Liverpool? I don't think so.

Thanks for the info @Trix - He's a good quality CM who'm i'd normally be excited about.

However, he is young and not played in the Prem before. I'd be worried about the expectations and lack of patience people will have with him, especially as so many of our other players, particularly in Midfield are very young too.
