Exactly, and to get their own way they have to pay someone £500k per week in wages or buy back an academy player for £89m.

It's a horrible market to be involved in.

I do love the fact that they keep getting screwed over these days.

My last post got a disagree from Herc. Nice to see my bullshit opinions have some use.

"Re; JJ's post on Malcom.

My guess is that we thought we'd be able to get Malcom this window but his club are in serious relegation trouble and need him until the end of the season."

Don't worry, we all come to wrong assumptions sometimes (not saying you are certainly incorrect)

Difficult not to get pessimistic when you see your rivals signing a big team in Europe's best player (albeit because he's being an arse, and they've just lost their own best player) and things seemingly are tougher than ever for us.

I'm sure we have a list of players that we are just working our way through. Let's hope we are able to get one over the line this window and something major for the summer. The expectation is a superstar for the new stadium with the whispering that we want to make a statement. Keep the faith I guess...

Hmmm...disappointing. I imagine the 2 deals yesterday made the player/agent stop and think 'I reckon we can get a shit load more cash if we hold fire and see what other offers from the Prem arise in the summer'.

Transfer windows have turned into a bit of a circus, if it wasn't for the love of our club I reckon I would have stopped caring years ago...

I don't need to know who the players are, I simply like to know that we are trying to make signings and if Herc, Trix, JJ etc are feeling positive about the chances of doing a deal and that the player(s) is of a good caliber then that's enough for me.

We all know it's the hope that kills you so in many ways it's better not to get hung up on the possibility of a specific player and instead just appreciate what you're being told and see what happens.

This is why I stand by this.

With that said though, we don't need to be too aggrieved about Malcom. It was looking like a deal this month was unlikely anyway and there's nothing to say we can't revisit this for the summer.

As Trix has said, it may be the agent or player that has moved the goalposts and if they see that it causes us to walk away from the deal then I would expect them to quickly revise their position.

If it was Bordeaux that changed something, e.g. added 10m to his value or something then that's more likely down to putting us off this month I would think.

Who knows, either way I'd arguably prefer not to know who the players are beforehand to save us from this potential meltdown when things go sideways.

I wonder if we'll push for Lucas now considering that he's looking very likely to leave in this window.

The excitement of the rumours, and in some sick way, the meltdown when they don't happen is all the fun of the window. As tiresome as it can become (the Sanchez saga every single day) I love the idea of potentially knowing. The ITK's do a great job of helping that too. This place would be far less appealing without them

Thanks for sharing the information share lads. Disappointing we couldnt get the deal over the line. Does feel a bit like Deja vu, but I’m sure we have other targets we are working on.

Biggest shame is that we really need reinforcements as our rivals are spending big money to upgrade their squads.

Not sure I agree with that mate, 'moving the goalposts' to me is about the financials.

and on what basis do you make that judgement?

To me moving goalposts could just as easy be timescales.

Only those in the know like JJ and Herc can state actual reason

Probably quite late in the day for us to be looking at other targets who can make an impact this season. I'd now be even more surprised than before if we signed anyone in this window.

The fact that this happens to us so much suggests that we're not being hugely realistic about our targets at times. I'm not expecting us to compete with the moneyed clubs above us, but let's at least be sensible on who we're targeting so that we don't spend ages going after people we ultimately can't afford.

As you say, our rivals are largely all strengthening. I'm not sure it bodes desperately well for us but we shall see.

While I suspect you have a point, would that have stopped us from even considering Davinson Sanchez?

This probably happens to all teams bar the moneybags just you don't hear of it. We have no idea what's happened yet. We obviously have other targets as all clubs do.
