You're up early for post b-day

A&C. I'm up very very late and that is spectacular. Especially because I definitely had a "STFU" post towards Harry today (or yesterdauy as you English call it - note I kept the really really unnecessary U that you guys will hump a wild Alpine Tern for)

But yesterday was a good day and not just because of Hottie Spurs birthday but we signed someone. And let's hope it continues.

I am, but it was a monday night so I could stay up to late...and tbh I did my proper celebrating at the weekend

I agree about yesterday being a good day  I had a good feeling we would make a signing on my birthday and I do think things will start happening at a quicker rate now, they kinda have to.

Well at least we've got a match to 'look forward' to tonight. Hopefully they'll have started to find their feet now and won't look quite as much like drunk lemurs as they did in the first game.

Coulibaly sounds exciting and together with Ceballos I'm liking our youth policy. Now we just need to give them some decent forwards to learn off.

We need at least two strikers Harry/Daniel. Don't let me down or there will be consequences. Loud, bitter and ultimately inconsequential consequences.

Have a look over the last ITK thread from yesterday.

I asked CorlukaModric if we were signing one or two strikers and he responded with one.

If its true its very disappointing because if we only sign one and he gets injured we are no better off than last season.

Exactly. We really need two strikers who can play together if necessary and who can play upfront on their own as well.

We need to have VdV + striker 1 + striker 2 + Coulibaly/Kane.

Sadly I can't see us getting rid of all four of our current strikers so I suspect striker 2 will end up being one of them. If that's the case we have to hope that the new striker is a bionic one otherwise we'll be back to square one if they're injured/knackered.

I think it simply means that right now we will only bring one in, but if we can shift one of Defoe or Crouch (which might still be possible as there seems to be interest) then we could get another in also.

If for example we sign Vucinic in addition to what we have then at least we will have a very good striker in (who would be able to play with any of our other forwards). Then if say Crouch moved to QPR we could push through the Adebayor deal, but we can't have 5 strikers.

Vucinic, Adebayor, Defoe and Coulibaly would be strong. Defoe can't be worse than last year.

Strange how quiet the vucinic things have gone. Seemed for a while like it was in the bag. Still think we will get vucinic or adebayor (hopefully both) and shift keane and crouch. That would give us a good balance of strikers.

Its probably a case of us having numerous bids for people in and accepted, and us then waiting to see if our top priorities agree 1st.

I think Vucinic is probably behind both Rossi and Adebayor (and maybe a.n.other surprise)

In January Defoe made noises about leaving if he was not first choice, if we sign one new striker, you can be certain he will start making those noises again; which will hopefully lead to him going and another striker coming in allowing us to offload Crouch or Pav at the last minute.

It would be stupid to sell any of our strikers before January(apart from keane). What's wrong with having 5 or 6 strikers? See how the new signings settle in and then offload the likes of Defoe etc. in January when everyone is desperate. Well get better prices in January.

1) We play 451 so we're not going to be able to sign two 'top top' strikers as one of them won't be a starter (I know we have a lot of games, but a top striker would surely want to start regularly in important matches). Thus We'll have to target one main striker and someone who's happy to play second fiddle, at least in the short term. I get the feeling Leandro was/is planned to be the second fiddle and he wouldn't expect to play every week as he'd be adjusting to the league, as with Sandro last season.

2) We've still got 4 strikers, for the 1 spot. I don't see Defoe or Crouch leaving but Pavlyuchenko and certainly Keane have been touted around for a while with no takers. Surely one if not two of these players need to go if we are to bring anyone in?

3) Levy got burnt when Defoe, Keane and Berbatov all left in a short space of time and I can't see him wanting that to happen again. Also, Redknapp is clearly fond of Crouch and Defoe. Thus I'd be shocked if Defoe or Crouch were moved on this summer.

4) Really good strikers are hard to find. A lot of our recent signings have been oppertunistic approaches for players that are out of favour (VDV) or whose contract is running down (Friedal, Pienaar, Gallas) or are from a smaller or relegated club (Krnajcar, Bassong, Crouch, Kaboul). Getting 'top top' players from big clubs who don't necessarily want to sell is very difficult (if you don't have the huge finances of City, United or Chelsea). I think we'll struggle to get one 'top top' striker and if it does happen it may well be someone like Vucinic who looks like he's falling out of favour.

Well for starters we'll pay Keane, Defoe, Pav and Crouch more than £10m in wages between now and January. Also, at least 2 of them wouldn't make the 25 man squad cut.

They all flopped last season. None of them contributed anything (except Crouch for a few matches in Europe). They are millstones, not insurance.
