I really wish some of us would wake up. I’m not happy, and don’t buy everything the club wants us to believe. Sorry for being so blunt.
If things were as bad as you're implying - which is to say, not a disaster but also not perfect - we would have heard it from Conte via the press by now. This is the last manager on the planet to mince his words especially when it comes to signings but all the noises so far have been mostly calm and positive.

Disappointed Herc produces better spelling.

Hopefully we won't understand your posts by tomorrow afternoon again...

Even if we don't sign anyone I'd say this is an 8 out of 10 window. The missing cog is the CB and it would've been nice to offload a few more on permanent deals instead of them all being back next summer and the same dance happening again, but the most important thing is that those players Conte truly did not want don't stick around Hotspur Way until January.

Definitely not a window to be unhappy about.

I echo Rob's post tbh. Im pretty shocked that we havent upgraded to another CB and worry that we are so focused on very specific targets which is an issue we had under Poch. Im not convinced we will get anywhere near Gvardiol or Bastoni in Jan or next Summer.

2 more days to go, and I think there will still be movement, but signing players for the sake of it is pointless because Conte just won't play them.
Exactly this, look what happened with Chelsea's signings under him. “I do not aim high with my requests, especially as in my history I’ve rarely been given the players I asked for." He walked after they signed players he didn't want, although many were quality.

How anyone can be anything but very happy with this window is beyond me…

Anyway, call me delusional but I don’t think we announce Romero today if our business was done. They’d definitely save him for deadline day if we had no plans.

There has been talk of holding money back to January, as it might make all the difference being able to strengthen in a specific area if needed during a long season like this one.

Saying that I'll be surprised if no one comes in at all.
May be smart to keep our powder dry if we cannot get those 2 quality players we want in now.
We have struggled to move on players Conte doesnt deem good enough so might be wise not to add to the out list next summer because we rushed recruitment.
Whilst January usually is a tougher market to deal in, the world cup often unearths a couple of lesser known gems that could be ideal for us.

I’m not sure what it is they want us to believe.
It would be really interesting to know what has made Herc unhappy,
But fully appreciate that will be something not for disclosure on an internet chat room.
Thanks for the updates Herc, really appreciate you passing on the news ‘as it is’
(Thanks to our other ITK too ?)

Personally think we're that 1 world class cb away from actually achieving something this season. But as it stands we look like we're done. We will have to wait until the end of season when titles and cups are decided to really know how well this transfer market was.

Your missing my point. I don't want us to just sign anyone - I want Conte to get his targets but if we are chasing unobtainable/unrealistic players then we are just wasting our time and maybe we need to compromise a bit.

I'm sure Herc has been quite positive all summer and has portrayed the mood to be quite good amongst the hierarchy so I'm not sure what's happened and also not sure what the club has been telling us?

I think there is a big difference between being focused on a specific type of player, and just a specific player. Poch picked out individuals, and if we couldn't get them then it was no one. Conte will ask for a specific player because he can do xyz, but if he isn't available he'll happily accept another player as long as he has a similar skillset. Makes a massive difference.

Ok cool it was just me assuming he only wants Bastoni/Gvardiol. If that's the case for our CB targets in the future then that is positive to hear! Thanks.

Agreed. I think if the club had been blowing smoke up Conte's arse and promising late signings we would've heard about it by now (or will hear about it very soon) in the press conferences.

Isn't this window the bare minimum we should have expected though? This was the first summer window under Conte, supposed to be a window where we properly go for it.

We've made three signings that I would say represent an unqualified improvement in Perisic, Richie and Bissouma and the others like Spece and Udogie are promising youngsters for the future not the here and now. But without that elite CB and another WF I can't say this window has been the game changing one I thought it would be.

If we had strengthend any less than we did the window would have been an absolute joke so for that reason I can't say it's been THAT good.

At the same time, I understand that if that elite CB isn't available that it's better to keep our powder dry, but then I think surely if we were willing to spend a bit more, the Bastoni and Zaniolo deals were there to be done.

Richarlison 60 million
Bissouma 35 mill
Perisic free

Forster free, Lenglet loan, Spence 15 mill or something.

Personally I thought we'd have seen some bigger deals, more elite players joining. I don't look at that list and think wow. I think good solid business, but I thought we'd have done more.

Well he wanted Bastoni because of his ability to play out from the back. We moved on Langlet because he can also do this, and Bastoni looked extremely difficult this season.
