Just catching up on the day's news. That's the first bum steer JJ has been given, he's been immaculate up to now.

I wonder if the club has successfully plugged the leaks or if we've played by Bentekkers' agent...

Personally think both us and Villa have been played by Benteke and his agent.

He did not have to be shown about our grounds and training facility if all he wanted was a pay rise!! Still think it's the club baulking at the price.

It is. There was a new deal on the table before the link to us even came about.

We wouldn't meet their valuation, so what else was he going to do? Signed the new deal, happy to do so bla bla

"Ermaghad...all ITK is lies and the club are failures and AVB is going to Barcelona and were signing Gary Hooper and Bale's going to leave and the new stadium will be made out of foetuses and nappies and our new shirt sponsor will be red and and and..."

Unless you are Daniel Levy or Franco Baldini you probably don't know the full story. So we've missed out on a couple of players? One wasn't on anyone's radar until about a week ago, the other was old and had a silly beard. There is plenty of time left in the window.

You've seen that funny movie with Bill Murray called Groundhog Day haven't you?

Hah. After all that. :D Well now, who is there left. He who shall not be mentioned over there in sunny ol' Brasil of course. Then there's my fave footballing crush, lickle Roberto at Valencia.

After that, everyone in the top bracket has already moved and most of the up-and-comers like Bony are also off the market.

Come on Baldini. First proper test here. Get that little black book out and start calling.

Ade was awful tonight at Colchester and got booed throughout...
I disagree ade actually worked hard for the team i remember him losing the ball once and chasing back half the pitch to get the ball back. His finishing was terrible but i am not overly concerned about finishing at this stage of preseason as that can improve with games. I didn't hear any booing. On a side note i thought Rose and Falque combined brilliantly on the left hand side

So another striker target is crossed off the list.... not sure which (if any) ITK to believe but IF Benteke was a target for us and we missed the window of opportunity to get him then Levy really needs to look at himself. Whilst 25m is certainly overpriced, many believe a top striker is the difference between us finishing top 4 and not, where that extra money would have been made up in no time.

At the start of the window there was a fairly long list of possible striker targets for us, which doesnt often happen. But one by one they are being crossed off, to the point now there are only a few left;

Damaio
Aubameyang
M.Gomez
Bony
Negredo
D.Villa
Cardozo
Benteke

Soldado
Michu
Remy

I know people are starting to lose hope (just like me) because they are trying to convince themselves that Ade is the answer!

I'm not sure in this case. Handing in a TR is a pretty stark way of simply getting a pay rise. Indeed, he was offered one before he even handed in the TR so it pretty much rules it out as the motivation. Nah I just think that we thought the price was too high. I'm just grateful this has ended now and we haven't been caught in the benteke headlights until 5 minutes before the window closes before watching it all turn to shit.

Still 6 weeks left to keep throwing darts at the proverbial striker dartboard. We might even open our eyes for the next throw.

Gutted not to have signed him, but good to see someone not agitating for a move and refusing to train etc etc. which is seen nowadays. Guess he won't be branded a twat after all.

That was a rumour - was there objective evidence of this?

Was undecided on Benteke and hope there really are other irons in the fire

Refuse to believe Arsenal are in for Bernard.

Disappointed about Benteke but if we were in for him he chose to stay at Villa on a much much better contract. Not Levy's fault. Either that or we weren't in for him or we're chasing someone else. As other's have said, only a couple of ITKs mentioned Benteke.

Surely this Real Madrid partnership will bear some fruit for us?

It will when Bale goes to them.

Disappointingly, for me at least, there's a Jason Burt Benteke article out in which he says:

Spurs turned to the 22-year-old [Benteke]after deciding against signing David Villa [ WTF??], who has moved to Atlético Madrid, and still remain in the market for a top-class striker this summer with Emmanuel Adebayor expected to leave.

I don't 'expect Adebayor to leave' :(
Good to see we 'decided against' David Villa though

The problem for me with that mate is we have no idea how Adebayor is going to perform this season. AVB is the only one who is in a position to gauge that - and even he might not be confident. I know he's looked good in training etc

You can bet your bottom buck if we go with what we have and are positive about Adebayor and he has a similar season to last this place will erupt.

I think we need another forward in, a quality one as well. Not easy granted, but its needed if we are serious about meaning business this season - and showing ambition to Bale. We've talked the talk, we've got to walk the walk.

Even if Adebayor was doing well this season and he got injured again, we can't rely on Defoe for a pro longed period. Have loved the little fella for years but we've evolved - as a team we are simply well ahead of what Defoe brings to the table.

Personally I think we need another quality forward in on top of Adebayor - as we can't rely on his consistency either, but he's a much better option that Defoe.
