For what its worth, if Villa weren't budging on their valuation then nothing doing.

The speed of the U-turn by Benteke suggests to me that he was just angling for a better contract.

He has probably ended up with a better contract than what was first on the table from Villa.

This preoccupation with strikers some on here have I feel is overplayed

The direction the game is going the star striker is becoming less and less a priority.

If we look at the top teams in the world the match winners are quite often not out and out strikers indeed Spain quite often play without 1

A few examples:

Madrid= C Ronaldo

Barca= Messi

Spain = Iniesta

Spurs = Bale

B Munich = Robben

Brazil = Neymar

Silly post.

All of those teams are better than us.

didn't he sign bale, amongst others? What a tremendous failure that entire episode was...n't. :whistle:

Unbelievable isn't it, a truly world class player, signed early people have short memories.

That there is our superstar matchwinner that would get into EVERY team in the WORLD.

Of all the things that have happened with our club today the thing that saddened me the most is the alleged booing at the Colchester game.

Good point, also goes along with my point about buying a workaholic striker to enable Bale. A bit like NFL teams construct their entire offence around star player, and get other players around him to compliment him and work for him.

Would Valencia sell below the 30 million release clause?

Probably, but remember when people look at Citeh buying Navas and Negredo for reasonable fees in the end, they usually put a lot more money up front than we are allegedly willing to do.

Fucking hilarious.

Benteke's agent has played us and Villa like the cheap violins all football clubs are. It's a win/win/win for him. I'm sure if we'd have been prepared to pay over the odds he'd be ours, with triple salary, we didn't so he gets the triple salary to stay, and now even if he has a shit next season he's guaranteed his salary for 4 years.

I don't think Benteke is the all round good thing some others did, certainly not at the price Villa wanted, so I'm not heartbroken. If we could sign a creative type I wouldn't even give a shit if we start next season with no additional striker. In Bale and Adebayor we have two great forwards who have scored/assisted 75 in the last two seasons between them. One of those seasons Bale was still being played on the left wing because our manager was told to by the fucking Shelf.

If we can sign a creative player and also improve one/both our full backs (left is the priority) for full backs that can contribute more offensively we will go a long way to solving a more important problem than one that isn't as desperate as most seem to think. Bale is a forward. Like Ronaldo is a forward.

It's possible the Soldado £20m link is from a scribble from the top table that said "Sold ade - £20m" and someone optimistic has misread it.

We're not actually in for Soldado, we're just trying to get £20m for Ade, seems like Danny tbf!

Quote from AVB (dis is ITK LOL)

“To be fair the English clubs, compared to the European clubs, are probably the ones who haven’t moved as much as they wanted or should, so at the moment we have the signing of one great international player, which everybody saw in the Confederations Cup so we are happy but our market hasn’t stopped and we will continue to further strengthen the squad.”

Release clause is more like 26m from what Ive read, but it depends. Valencia are desperate for money so reckon it is possible, also I think a lot of what is being said by valencia might be posturing as a way to force soldado's price up. Also if he asks to leave, which is unlikely, I reckon they will let him go for less.So maybe..

A word for the wise on ITK records. If the top of the line ITK wanted an impeccable record (JJ, POTL, etc.), they could easily do so if they wanted by just waiting until everything was 100% done and dusted and then telling the world. Instead, they are nice enough to share information prior to it being completely done and in the world of football, things are so fluid and change minute by minute.

Don't know why people are implying that JJ's record is going to take a hit w/ the Benteke news. If anything, just backs up that he is top of the line itk. We were clearly in for him and probably pretty damn close to signing him as he implied, but things changed.

Has this AVB guy been verified by the mods?
