Interesting from JJ, he wouldn’t say we were trying if we weren’t. Also interesting about the ‘up to the player’ part, it suggests, contrary to popular belief, that we are after highly coveted players rather bargain basement.

That makes sense. We know Poch will not put players in the first team unless they are ready; so for example Lucas was a January signing who really did not figure until this season. Any players bought in January have to be top drawer if they are going to help us this season, or else be a young player we really want for the future.

We are currently a better looking side and would be more attractive to some of our targets .

Eriksen new deal and MAYBE even Toby and I think it's a good window. Can't see any incomings, but as JJ says, I'm sure we're trying. Shame we couldn't get de Jong
I think there's more chance of Toby re-signing than Eriksen at this point.

Real shame on the De Jong front. Shows our scouts are finding the right players though, just need one of them to land.

The good news is that they do land on a regular basis - Eriksen, Dele, Sonny, JV, etc.

JJ in the Eriksen thread:

Its Real not Barca and we obviously don't want to lose him.
Not money related and has turned down all our contract offers.
Its dynamic is code for we are wanting him to sign but not willing for him to take this into his last year and go on a free!
That's if Real even want him which we cant say as his agent will be talking to them.
Hugely disappointing but not much we can do other than make sure we dont lose one of our prize assets for nothing.

He’s a superb talent and will be a real loss, but the club is bigger than any one player and we will carry on, adapt and improve regardless. Players are not irreplaceable even though it often feels like they are when we’ve got them. Think Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Dimi Berbatov in recent memory - all incredible players - but the club carried on an upward trajectory regardless... That said, I’d be as gutted as anyone to see him leave!

We need to make sure we get someone in return - they’ve got players who could fill the void, albeit they may not want to come

Not unsurprising this really, but a massive shame
