A bit disappointed that we didn't get either Dembele or Maddison in - though with the insistence from Fulham on loaning Dembele back I can see why we didn't as the whole point would be to get someone in now.

I know seemingly huge amounts of people here will disagree with me but personally I would've really liked to see us snap up Charlie Austin. "He's too slow", "he's a twat", "he's not a Poch player" I know people will shout as they always do, but frankly for £4m I think Southampton have simply bought a guarantee of goals, which is a pretty precious commodity in the PL. Obviously Poch wasn't interested though and that's fair enough. I really hope we make the most of this opportunity this season though as I'm not convinced it'll come again.
Really couldn't disagree more about Austin. The last thing we need is to add a player who doesn't fit Pochettino's plans just because

I think the point being made, was that it will be the same for all the other teams around us, if their star-striker/top scorer gets injured...

Also, Kane has scored 13 of our 41 goals. That isnt nearly half, well, i suppose thats down to what you see as 'nearly'.

Ok, my math sucks but point still stands that he scored 13 on his own and the other 9 players scored 28. It's a big drop in goals if we lose him. Yes other teams have the same risk with the star forward but most have more up front depth to cover that situation. Chelsea have 4, Man UTD, City, Arsenal & Liverpool have 5 forwards. We have Kane and Son who is more of a Midfielder. Kane gets injured or loses form and we are in big trouble

Who are these forwards who play for our rivals? 4 for Chelsea and Utd, 5 for Liverpool and Arsenal?

Not a bad window - offloaded one unwanted player permanently, got another off the wage books until the summer. Lost a young player who Poch didn't rate, loaned one out that Poch does rate.

As for the striker situation, we are in a bit of a catch 22 situation. Simply get a body in, and we are in danger of wasting money and having someone who will be difficult to shift (and we've been there before!), or we get someone who is good but frustrate them because Kane is and will be first choice, so they will be sat on the bench. And potentially spend tens of millions in doing that.

We have enough "options" to back up Kane, and maybe a Harrison will push on in the next couple of years and we will be glad that his route to the first team was not blocked by some jobbers who are both not good enough to play ahead of Kane but too good to not play in front of a kid.

In the end, the direction the club is currently going is excellent and while I had hoped we would get someone in, I'm glad we did not get another striker simply for the sake of it. Unlike most teams, our decision making seems to be more long term than short term, and that is how we will get ahead in the end.

Look at Utd, they have splashed money all over the place but look disjointed, lopsided, and certainly playing less than the sum of their parts.

I'm sure we get some wage relief with Ade going elsewhere too

So...I think we are in trouble now.

Is there anybody left to sell?

We have got rid of everybody who didn't play and was worth something.

How are we going to generate a positive nett spend without selling somebody we actually want to keep?

Fazio and Yedlin will cover the funds for Dembele's tribunal.

Unless there is an unforeseen windfall from somewhere, there won't be any big signings.

If we're still paying him, how is he eligible to play for Palace against us in the upcoming FA cup tie?

I expect it's a staggered settlement as opposed to the player still be contracted to our club.

Not sure who these bona-fide back up strikers are you refer to at our rivals...?

The other point which i feel is relevent, is that maybe we are becoming one of those teams who create opprtunities for the striker regardless of who is playing there! Yes, it is a massive bonus having Harry up top, but as has been pointed out already, in the games we played without Harry we have actually scored quite a few and played well.

All in all, im sure everyone here would be very happy to have 2 players like Harry to rotate between. But that, in reality, is very rare and difficult to maintain.

In fact, fuck it! i'm gonna say it - I'd rather have Son up front than Berahino!!

Is there a "Who do we need to buy in the summer" thread yet? Without creating one I'd be really interested to hear peoples thoughts.

I doubt we hold his registration so he's free to play, we must have purely a financial settlement to cover a sum we've already agreed to pay as regular payments

So disappointing, Pochettino doesn't have an eye for talent, he can't spot talent and this is why we haven't made any signings this window.

Absolutely fucking spot on. Couldn't agree more!!

Now 5 points off top, and 2 points off 2nd, only just overtaken our noisy, nomadic neighbours, who were 5 points clear of us only a couple of weeks ago.

I'm absolutely certain that, had we signed Berahino on Monday night, or any other striker that Poch is clearly unable to identify, we'd be 30 points clear of Leicester now.

Poch out!!
