I'm not saying don't go for players like Martial. I'm saying the scouting network didn't identify him. He's a big name, and he went for a colossal transfer fee.

It's like when we tried to sign Aguero. And Mata. And Hazard. And Depay. Nice ideas. They simply never, ever, ever happen though.

Son and N'jie could turn out to be fantastic signings, I don't necessarily think our scouts are useless. The point is that we shouldn't left as short as we are at this point. Players in key positions should have been identified and secured earlier on. I don't know whether that's the scouts fault, the chairman's fault or Poch's fault. We can only guess.

Poch might say he's only interested in Berahino, and we probably should have done more to make that happen. I personally think making quick-fire no hope bids on the last day for an only choice target is risible.

We did make signings in key positions that were identified and secured early on - its like people instantly forget all the good work that was done in this window because the WBA chairman stonewalled us at the end. Let's not go totally mental.

I agree with everyone that said today has been rubbish and that we've been let down not addressing two key positions. Apparently we went through a list of 5 or so players identified by the scouts for the defensive midfield position and didn't get any.

So, why didn't we do this for the strikers. It's a harder position to recruit for yet we didn't have a list of number 9s behind Berahino. Did the scouts not identify any players, what happened there?

But that's the point! We shouldn't be in a situation where we have to hope for the best. We've had all summer to address our striker options. We sold Soldado, and told Ade he will not be part of our plans. The path has been cleared for a new striker. How can we go into the season with just Kane? Ok we didn't sign Berahino but where's plan B, C, D etc etc. That little c**t has screwed up AGAIN!!!! His transfer dealings are done. "Levy Time" my ass!!!!!
"But it’s like when you are in love with some lady – there are a lot of women around the world but you want only one"

Certainly sounds like it was SB or go with what we have for Poch
BUT WHERE THE FUCK WAS PLAN B,C,D,E FUCKING BALD **** FCKING LEVYTIME MY ARSE!!!! ;)

That's still good news. If we're going back in for him in January, the fact that the contract buyout option is available in a year from January means his value will have already dropped. If we wait till summer he's basically got 6 months left.

Only foreign clubs can go for him then

We should get our friends in Belgium to sign him on a pre contract

Martial was so overpriced it was ridiculous. He may come good, but paying £36m for a 19 year old scored 11 goals last season is too big a risk for us to take.

I'm starting to fear that our stadium plans have come at a bad time. We've got to cut back on spending to fund the stadium, other clubs are flush with TV money and clearly willing to spend as much as possible.

We could well see ourselves slip down the league this year and next...

And we'll have a maturing squad, great training facilities a new stadium and a flush new owner so it's all good.

Maybe, but what's the point of a shiny new stadium if we can't fill it? Tickets for most home games go on general sale these days, which must in part be due to the turgid, functional football we've suffered since Redknapp left. We've always been about excitement, glamour and star quality, but there's precious little of that on offer. I think that will continue, and people will consequently vote with their feet. There's just no magic any more, which really saddens me.

He's another yes man unfortunately... No doubt N'jie and Son will be hyped up as striking options... When we all know in reality we are a Kane injury away from being fucked.

We are playing in 4 competitions with 1 striker, you couldn't even make that level of incompetency up

Also...We must be fucking skint as a club.

Do you know how depressing it is watching relegation fodder net spend into the tens of millions and there is us consistently breaking even.
Which might make US relegation fodder.

How do you know we didn't have a list of back up strikers?

Pochs words last week strongly suggest that for him it was Berhaino or go with what we have.

Wonder what would have happened if we'd just bid the amount of the fourth bid straight away? Seems they dug their heals in firstly because of the constant bids, and secondly because they had no time to get a replacement.

Son, Clint, Toby etc. We were a striker away from a truly fantastic window. We should be celebrating the signing of some pretty special, young, players and now we are simply left worrying that we've been left short.

Let's face it, we don't even know if N'Jie and Son are a) fit or b) suitable for the premier league or c) any good.

A few weeks ago I got spammed to eternity for suggesting we should have signed Lambert. Anyone suggesting Austin was laughed off.

I don't have an issue with the players we have bought in but how have we not bought a back up for Kane. Its mental. No other premier league club would rely on one premier league forward.

Its just that, Lambert and Austin were not considered to be appropriate as backups to Kane - they cannot play the position as our system requires. You mention N'Jei and Son - check Lambert's stat/games played for our main rival for 5th last season, what suggests he would do a better job for us, and Austin is such a hot prospect that not even a bottom half team bid for him. We were obviously after a different type of player in Bera and feel that for the time being that N'Jei and Son will be better replacements.

They didn't need a replacement, they had Rondon, Lambert, some guy with a nigerian sounding name, Pulis only likes to play 1 up top

Obviously we made some signings. I'm not trying to suggest we signed nobody.

The frustration is that good work is easily undone by filling one position and leaving another vacant. Look how many central midfielders we've sold this summer. How many have we signed? Adebayor has been cast out (his own fault), and Soldado has been sold. Obviously we needed a proper goalscorer to lighten Kane's load and provide cover. Poch even said so himself.

The fact that we've signed Son and Alderweireld is great, but it doesn't excuse the holes that should have been filled.

This is worse than classic Spurs. Every year we get teased with at least one big name signing, Levy makes a last second undervalue bid that will never get accepted then says he tried his best but the other club is at fault. This year it is the same thing except we are not even getting told about a big name signing. Just some mid table players most people have never heard of.

I notice that other teams don't generally wait till the last day to try and sign our players, other than Ade and that's because he is a %&#@head

Lennon, Yedlin on Loan?
