if your going to head into meltdown mode at least give it another 3 to 4 epl matches 1st.

yes we as fans feel (we are not EPL managers) we have been let down. yep in many eyes we needed a DM, but lost our No.1 target to a CL team. Berahino £25m? only had 1 good season, like Kane. next season we can get him for nearer 15 when WBA get relegated
Relegated along with us?

Had we really wanted Berahino we wouldn't of chanced it waiting to the last couple of hours to bid again. It really is that simple, because leaving it that late is totally gambling on whether it comes to fruition.

I'm sure had we bid the amounts we bid today, weeks ago, this deal would of been done long before today. Convinced it was the bullying tactics that got West Brom's back up - and the more we dragged it out, unsettling the player and spacing out bids whilst still not getting close enough to what they'd accept - the more pissed off they got and the more determined they got to not sell him for a penny less than what they quoted us at the very outset.

You might be right. However Peace has now cut his nose off to spite his face. No other club were showing any interest in SB so I would say their valuation was high and DL thought the same.

Just something I've been thinking. I know several Spurs fans that know their football but don't do the whole online thing and aren't registered to any forums. I've spoken to 5 of them today in a mini experiment type thing and every single one is at least ok and at most very happy with our window. They've basically between them said that Trippier, Alli, Wimmer, Alderweireld, N'jie and Son makes for a really good window. They would've liked a striker but are generally ok due to Son & N'jie as back up and only one of them was angry at the failure to sign a DM. They're normal fans. Most hadn't heard of Wimmer for instance but generally know what they're talking about.

I think my point is that if there was no internet and no reminder every other minute that we're after Witsel or Wanyama or Martinez or Illaremendi or Berahino or Pato or all the other players on the transfer rumours forum, then people would be much less angry at the result of our business. Sure they'd be gutted but nowhere near as angry. Some people take the ITK thread far too literally and as we all know, what was the case one minute might change the next. If people weren't aware what was happening that first minute then they can't get angry at the next when nothing comes of it. As much fun as the ITK thread is, and it is, it doesn't half bring out the worst in people. The Internet era has changed people's patience. For example, in the whole scheme of things, the Illaremendi rumours lasted around a week, maybe 10 days before he signed for Sociedad but because of the Internet, people were constantly talking about him every minutes of every day so it felt like we'd been after him for years and it made it worse when we didn't get him.

While I'm yapping on and on I might as well get this thought in too; I personally completely understand how ITK works and that things can change quickly. My 'advice' to the ITK's is that if you add the terms 'my source believes/states' and 'as of this moment' then that would go down better with lots of posters. So a comment like 'Berahino is pretty much done' could be changed to 'my source believes that as of this moment, Berahino is pretty much done'. That way the ITK doesn't come across as any kind of know it all (not that they do now) and even the most anti ITK poster will understand that the ITK is just passing on info in good faith and not declaring themselves to be the daddy. This should be obvious anyway but not all posters understand this..... This is absolutely not a dig at ITK's, especially our ones. They've been beautiful.

Back to the window, I'm writing this season off in terms of top 4 but I think we'll use lots of youth over the season and that can only be good for next season. If Poch really wants Berahino that much, I'd rather he waits for him next season than get someone in for the sake of it and not play them much anyway (like Stambouli & Fazio). Saying that, I'm very disappointed we didn't get a striker & think we're an injury to Kane away from having a 'mare but am excited to see how Son & Clinton work out. And I really fucking love Dier so I'm glad he'll get more game time. I'd play him up front if it meant him being on the pitch. Future captain for me.

It's been disappointing but it's not a disaster. And striker/DM aside, it's been a pretty decent window. I'm 50/50 re Levy. There's no doubt he's done some amazing things for us but he's also fucked up too. I'm ready for a sugar daddy City style to take us to the next level. I've been a season ticket holder for 35 years and now I want to see us compete properly and regularly. I'd very much prefer to do all this under Levy but I can't see that being possible due to the limitless spending by City, Chelsea & now Utd.

Jesus how long? If you're still reading you're obviously bored.
Superb post mate!

This and Stoof's post a few pages back sums it up nicely for me.

You do not know that though do you? It is all pure guess work to fit your own point of view.

Its not all pure guess work though. We know we bid today, and only a mere hour or two before the window shut. To leave it that late, in a position which was important to address, warrants questions to be asked.

Interesting in the BBC article it says Peace never set a figure for Berahino. With hindsight he probably looked at Sterling going for £49m and hoped one of the other super rich boys would come in and blow us out of the water.

This never happened but of course Peace in his public bleatings had backed himself into a corner and so it effectively became a cock fight. The increased TV money though gave him grounds to dig his heels in and look powerful.

I don't think Berahino is worth £22m but we do need him so I would have understood us paying it. Berahino will probably be sold to Utd or Arsenal for £12m in January so in the end Peace will probably lose out also.

All in all we have strengthened our weak point from last season, defence, and replaced 2 ineffective forwards with Clinton and Son. So not a disaster of a window. We still lack an experienced head though.

He has a bit yeah.

The unfortunate thing is all three parties have lost out now.

From the BBC

Spurs’ failure to sign another striker or an experienced midfielder signals a deplorable lack of ambition that could stifle the development of a young squad full of potential and leaves us vulnerable to competitors. The right men in these two positions could make a significant difference but chairman Daniel Levy, the so-called shrewd negotiator, catastrophically misjudged a market flush with TV cash. Teams no longer have to cave in because they just don’t need the money. Another window, yet another missed opportunity. Today’s desperate Berahino or bust shambles obscures concerns that Spurs’ overhaul of scouting and recruitment failed to find alternatives. The club site’s pathetic attempt to solve the problem by reclassifying Heung-Min Son as a striker did not play well with frustrated and furious fans. Now let’s get behind the team. COYS

This says it all perfectly. We get behind the team, but we want much much more from the club.

Higher than what.....the reputed £5m up front??
And there will definitely be other clubs interested if he is coming up to the end of his contract.

Don't disagree with you as I think pretty much the same (although I'd rather we got Berbatov for cup games than let Ade back in)
The more I think about it, the more I convince myself that it might actually be the plan. What's the bet he gets a squad number back at some point.

I'm not going to
Completely melt down until A few games. Thinking njies pace and sons ability is enough now to finally to create enough space going forward and hence allowing us to be set more defensively

If he walk he get nothing. If he do bad he will get axed and then get whatever he was due in a massive payout.
If he is sacked his time at Spurs will be viewed in the same way as AVB - a failure.

I know this sounds ridiculous to all you doom and gloom mongerers but an alternative could be that he does the best he can with what he has (like every other manager) and tries to be successful.

Are we stronger than last season? Yes, we are!

Ah yeah, Poch must be the reason why we didn't have a plan b and had all of our eggs in a deadline day deal.

We should have learned our lesson after Poch did this in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 as well.

Seriously.. our owner is a billionar who sits on a yacht in a tax haven.. he doesn't love this club like we do & he sure as hell doesn't want what's best for the fans or the club.. he has built a training complex & future stadium with borrowed money & once stadium is done he will sell for a massive profit.. Enic = investment firm

I'm in the Bahamas at the moment for a couple of weeks holiday(Check me out)and I can honestly understand why he doesn't give a toss about what goes on the pitch in North London every other week. He's made his money and he's enjoying it and doesn't want to piss it up the wall competing with 4 or 5 other clubs who don't mind chucking loads of money about with more than a chance of finishing in a similar position if you had anyway. Not how I would go about it if I was in his position but Spurs have been a big part of my life since I was a kid it's obviously not the same for him. We will never seriously challenge for major honors with this regime.

So we spend £45M on 5 players and remove 9 for a circa £43-45m - quite frankly, what can the club hope to achieve this season? Even better finances than already being the no.1 financially performing club?

I am usually optimistic, but I can't see many positives, my only hope is Njie, and Son set the world alight, and we look back on a wonderful window, but as we all know the squad feel's 2 players short.

You have to trust the coaching staff and board, but on both counts it seems strange. If you look at the players we signed, why has Trippier not been given any minutes? (Walker looks the weak link in the side atm), Wimmer has not featured at all? So where really is the improvement on last year? Levy is living in circa 2010, but everyone has caught on to his antics!

Would you really have played Wimmer (22yo) over Toby or Jan? With Trippier I would guess that with the exception of United we have played teams set up to hit us on the counter and Walker is the speedier of the 2 (also why Rose replaced Davies) - I do agree that Walker has caused me concern a few times!
