Nuno Espírito Santo keen to sign winger Adama Traoré for Tottenham

Nuno Espírito Santo is pushing Tottenham Hotspur to sign Adama Traoré but an offer to bring in the winger on loan has been rejected by Wolverhampton Wanderers. Nuno worked with Traoré at Wolves and wants to use his good start to the season, winning both league games as head coach, to sign another attacking player. Traoré, 25, can also play down the middle as a striker.

Tottenham were willing to pay £5 million with an option to make the deal permanent next summer. Wolves turned that down as they want a guaranteed sale — which could be a loan with an obligation to purchase next summer — if they are to sanction a move for Traoré, who has two years left on his deal. He has an offer to extend his contract at Wolves but has not agreed personal terms.

Traoré managed only two goals and two assists in the league last season compared with four goals and nine assists in the previous campaign. Tottenham are also not expected to sell Lucas Moura or Steven Bergwijn, both attacking wide players.

Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Pape Matar Sarr, the 18-year-old Metz midfielder, but face competition from several other clubs. Bernard Serin, the Metz president, claimed a deal worth more than £12 million has been agreed. “Nothing is signed, but I have a verbal agreement with the president of Tottenham,” Serin said at the weekend.
Hope it ain't a gentleman's agreement :cautious:

I'm with Nuno on this, i personally "love" Traore, so would be happy if we splashed some cash on him. He is a typical Tottenham player that gets you off the seat although with some screaming at the TV cous of his lack of end product at times. I really feel he can be our Salah, just a talent with no end product that suddenly all turned around in the right environment.

There were the obvious rumours that we would be interested in a deal for Traore as soon as NES was announced, so why are we only now hearing about a potential deal? What has happened to bring this to the fore now? Can't see how Kane staying would affect this as we could have gone for him far earlier if we are not dependent on Kane money in. Or was he down our list and we have missed out on higher targets?

My guess would be that our striker targets have become unavailable, so that frees up funds and squad places for Traore.

And Wolves accepting that he’s not going to renew, so this is their last window to get a good fee for him, making them more amenable to a deal as the window winds down.

Perhaps Wolves have accepted that he won't sign a new contract, they've identified player(s) they want in and it's the last week of the window.

Not surprised if they rejected loan with option as if we don't take up the option they're stuck with with only a year left on his contract.
Only an obligation will do as it's effectively an outright purchase.

On his loan + option to buy business - this won't be Spurs going all Dr Evil meme and holding the UN to ransom for "1 million dollars!"

This I imagine would be where Adama extends a year at the same time as going on loan, so they still have 2 years at the end of it and are protected.

It was the same deal Napoli and Marseille did for Milik, whose deal was expiring.

There the buying club had all the leverage to set the terms to the other club to make it a loan with obligation, and gets a buy now pay later.

The selling club protects the player's value, but looses the cash flow. Which is only a problem when you want to reinvest.

Enter Jorge Mendes, who does us a favour and guarantees Wolves get Guedes without having to pay too much upfront themselves, probably by then helping Valencia get one of his guys from Portugal.

2 years probably isn't enough leverage to get it done, hence why Wolves have pushed back, but I'd imagine something like this is in the works.

Reckon if Kane stays we will go for Edouarde at Celtic.
It's midfield and RB that worries me.
Peh, Skipp and Ali are the only mids we can rely on, the rest are either not good enough, too injury prone or not interested. It would be negligible to go into the season in this state, so I expect/hope for at least 1 in, hopefully 2.
Tomayasau would solve the RB and CH issue, seams a no brainer.
Traore would be a luxury purchase, not a big fan, but can see his strengths , bigger priorities in my opinion

Bet you didn't think you'd be saying that so soon this season!

It's mental we'd even offer that. Boarderline disrespectful.

Imagine if City asked for Kane on loan for a year with no obligation to buy. I know it ain't the same as such but jeez.

All these loans with obligation to buy is also slightly worrying, it's great in the short term but makes me wonder how much we'd have to spend next summer which could arguably be more important in terms of squad building than this summer.

We need him more than we need a disinterested Ndombele.

Exactly. The value of an Ndombele who will not play a game for us is zero. In fact it’s -£200,000 a week.

Time to cut our losses with that one, if he can be swapped for a competent CM who wants to be here then so be it.
