How did the owners not see that coming when they voted to move up the end of the window?! ... the part regarding teams abroad just waiting out the perm clubs for bargains.
I actually like the window finishing earlier but they (the PL clubs) should have implemented/drawn up provisions to protect themselves against that or just waited until the rest of Europe followed suit (if they ever do). It puts the PL teams in such a weak bargaining position

If it’s only Grealish, that’s one seriously underwhelming window. I don’t think it will be but it’ll be anti-viagra if it is
We've had months to get rid of players. Obviously some of that is out of our control but Levy will have to lower his typically high demands at some point.

If it's only about wages and squad places then why can't we offer out some loans? Makes me think it is a bit about money.

The thing is that Levy won't sell them the players at a cheaper price. We'll miss out on bringing in the players we want, and anyone looking to buy from us after the English window closes will end up disappointed when they see how stubborn he is.

Regarding all the ITK on players taking up spaces in the squad and the financial constraints it causes, we have to remember that we are significantly increasing the salaries of our key players which probably puts much more strain on salary allowances. Which is why it is so important to shift these players.

On another hand it shows exactly why we need to make the right signings in the market, can't be signing any more cheap alternatives such as Janssen, N'Koudou, etc.

I do wonder however, if we are able to let these players go for cheaper as it seems like getting them off the wage bill is far more important at this stage.

Ali z saying we haven’t had any interest in the players we want rid of. Not looking good:

I repeat there are no firm bids, not an offer we rejected.

But no firm bids doesn't necessarily mean no interest right? We have been told there was interest in Dembele & Toby just no firm bids as of yet? Or am I reading it wrong?

To my mind we need to be brave and expect that those fringe players will get offers after the UK window shuts. We can't sit on our hands from a buying perspective just cos we have some players we also need to ship out.

Reality is that we might make losses on the fees we get but getting the players out and the wages off the wage bill is very important as well, particularly when we know we have strengthen with new players.

Exactly, signing only Grealish is a bit of a disaster tbh. We need to take a risk here. I'd be pretty confident there will be more activity as we approach both deadlines. Surely we can shift 3 or 4 on loan at the very least.

This is all setting up nicely for the club to sell Toby to Utd and use this information to justify it to our fans. I can see it a mile off.

How on earth does that work, as he would be replaced by another similar player anyway. No Toby out, no defender in. Its the deadwood players that we want to replace with quality that I imagine is the problem (Nkoudou, Janssen, Llorente, maybe Sissoko)

VY's info, though urging us to be upbeat, leaves me with a sour taste of pessimism.

If you look at the fringe players we have to shift, what would you expect other than loan offers?

VJ and GKN have to prove themselves on loan, if we have any hope of a fee down the track. Sissoko is also not generally highly regarded, is on big wages and will be picky (so we will likely have to pay some of his wages to loan him). Llorente is old and in his last year, so any fee would be minimal and he will also be selective.

We had itk that there were loan offers just no bids. So that's what we have to do I think.

When VY speaks I listen! I just can't say I believe right at this moment in time.

The stadium will definitely be his legacy. It would be nice if we could launch it with a few shiny new players though.

We don't really need another excuse. Everyone already knows that he can leave on the cheap next season.

Quite how the Premier League clubs thought closing the transfer window early with no other league in Europe following the same plan would be a good idea is beyond me, puts all clubs at a massive disadvantage in all dealings with foreign clubs

Agreed. They clearly didn't weigh up the risks involved and made a quick decision because they couldn't be bothered with all the hassle that happens after the seasons kicked off. Very short sighted and a pretty amateur decision if you ask me.

Good on paper, awful when looking after the genuine best interests of Premier League clubs financially. Advantage Europe

That ITK doesn't sound good at all. When season ended I believe our transfer budget and wage budget took into consideration that not only were the deadwood players leaving but also Toby, Dembele and Rose.

This idea of spending £150m then clawing it back through sales has slipped away. Rose is staying it seems and now it's sounding like we couldn't find a buyer for Dembele. That only leaves Toby money and scraps from the deadwood if we can even get anything, something that is sounding increasingly difficult. We pretty much spend what we earn and that's certainly not going to change moving into a £800m stadium.

I'm expecting Grealish and the Toby money to split on an attacker and a CB and that's it.

So we need to sell to buy, because of wages, as opposed to player valuations?

Why don't we just set the value for these players at an amount where we can get them out the door?
