you make some valid points bazzer, but are ade or JD likely to leave for a club skirting the relegation zone? Methinks not.

equally, is a threatened club - one without Harry in charge - gonna stump the readies to get Levy moving, or entice that calibre of striker?

Yeah that is a valid point about relegation threatened clubs, but it does somewhat depend, much like our own situation a few years back, we had the nucleus of a decent team but were struggling, not getting goals, not getting results and confidence was gone, you don't have to be a regular relegation favourite to get sucked into the relegation zone and if you are anything like a decent sized club then the possible loss of PL income could easily make one of those clubs offer decent money to entice an experienced player, Ade is a curious one, he seems more interested in the money but because of his wages I doubt we'll find it easy getting a fee but if a club offered him the chance of earning the wages and playing regularly I think his ego would push him towards playing rather than staying. JD it might be simpler, he still wants to make the WC which he won't if he's not playing and that will be a Spur to him, he did move to Pompey too though they were past the earlier relegation fears but he moved there to play regularly, he's older now and I guess would be a bit more inclined to be more open to clubs he might not be
My gut tells me that AVB would prefer to lose Ade before JD not because he thinks he's less suitable as our main striker, but because he wants a more suited main striker and it appears he doesn't exactly have an easy relationship with him anyway. If AVB get a main striker in I think he seems to be happy enough with JD as an impact sub. JD might not be happy with that role but he won't really be in a position to moan about not starting regularly until a number of games in the season at which point he won't be able to move till Jan anyway
I think we'll try and find one of the wealthy Russian clubs to take Ade in summer and I guess we'll take the hit on fee if they offer him enough to move, that won't bring us any money in but it will free up £100k a week and get us out of the commitment for another three years, keep JD till Jan and then see who is settling in well, how much JD is having an impact, indeed if he has any and what offers there might be and replacements that might be gettable

But we shall see in the next few months I guess

Ok i'm not going to go off topic but have you watched Yilmaz in the turkish league? Yes he's not amazing and i'm not sure if i'd want him at Spurs but the guy has scored 90 goals in the last 3 season including 8 goals in the CL last season, so hardly utter shit!

Coming from a turk who actually follows turkish football, trust me when I say he is pure utter shit. Goal scoring records mean shit in Turkey, the turkish game has no understanding of the art of defending.

Anyway if you want to continue the discussion just send me a pm. :)

Back to the topic, I seriously think a forward of the calibre of Soldado can help us push for the title!

That is the badge of the Royal Regiment of Artillery with whom I served 20 years 'The REAL gunners' not make believe dick heads.

Ever based at larkhill ?

Regarding the itk.... Wouldn't be too fussed if ade went but I'd prefer to keep him over Defoe even though I said the exact opposite a couple of months ago.

I don't watch the Turkish league but I've seen him in the Champions League and his attributes are clear to see.

If he's shit what is Defoe?

Have you watched his goals? Half of them were just lucky and the others were so simple Ade could of scored them. Lets wait and see if he repeats his goal scoring tally next season in the champions league.

I've seen them and I don't care whether he scuffs his shots like Inzaghi, or whether he's 'lucky' .

It'd be nice having a striker in the right place at the right time.

an Ade on form is the top class striker we are seeking - I'd say don't give up on him too easily - personally I would give him until January to show consistency.

And if he doesn't, by January we could be totally out of the title race and struggling to challenge for top 4. We need a trustworthy striker now - if we keep Ade to let him compete, fine, but if we have to get his wages off the bill to afford a Soldado or Villa then lets end it. We will get nowhere depending on a 5 goal/season striker, even if he is world class on his (rare) day.

When I said keep him I didn't mean not get a new striker. Sell Defoe and bring in a Soldado or Villa rather buying 2 strikers and selling Ade.

I think were more likely to sell Ade than Defoe as his wages are higher (Financial Fairplay) and Defoe would be easier to manage if hes not in the team!

Can we try to have a modicum of sensibility here please. Adebayor has played for us for two season, in one he was excellent and a vital part of us finishing fourth, in the other he made us into a better team when he played and started hitting form as the season finished. This season even with a misfiring Ade, we weren't a mile off Utd (in January) and languish down in 12th so don't act like that is what playing Ade will do to us next season. If you want to make a prediction take a look at the results when he played and at least be fair.

There are not a lot of striker better than Adebayor. Yes the likes of Messi, Lewandowski, Ronaldo, Cavani, Van Persie, Falcao are better but seriously, how many people can sensibly suggest 5 strikers that are better than Adebayor that we could realistically could buy? Some 19 year old German kid playing in Germany's second division is not going to be a better option than Adebayor. If we can get two of Leandro/Saldado/Benteke and one of Villa/PEA/Son then excellent, we can consider letting Ade move on, until then we can't afford to weaken ourselves.

So how about we don't act like Children and cry about how shit Ade is a remember that finding a better striker than him is not easy. Also for those who are going to start posting abut Berbatov there is no evidence that he would have come back or that he and his agent could have come to a workable agreement with Levy who was f**ked over big time by them.

Added to that, aren't City paying some of Ade's wages? He won't be on much more than Defoe in terms of how much we are paying him IMO.

The problem with selling Defoe is that he's best mates with Bale, I suppose if we get Bale all signed up to a new deal then we can let Defoe go, but i'd worry about selling Bale's best mate before this is all done and dusted.

Clearly though this has nothing to do directly with football...

That's a good point. I think Bale will be less reluctant to leave if his best mate leaves the club. Keeping Defoe as a second/third choice is not a bad idea if it makes Bale wanna stay. Defoe is so old he probably understands he can't demand regular first team football anymore.

hell i'd sign bale's classmates from primary/junior/secondary school, his first kiss, his first girlfriend, his whole family and his dog if it meant he stayed (y)
