We have plenty to spend but would rather a “deal”. Levy would rather spend £50m on two deals than £45m on the one player we need.
Perhaps Levy is thinking: I have a Director of Football who is about to be banned from football (if not jailed) and a Manager who is hinting that he wants to return to Italy for family reasons, so maybe I should spend on loans now and conserve my resources for the summer when I may very well have a new Manager and new Director of Football.

Going on what WLB has said, whilst it is naturally annoying that it seems the Zaniolo deal is proving difficult, I do think a lot of people are ignoring or skipping over "with the clauses Roma are trying to insert into the deal with 18 months to run".

Whilst we could just 'pay the price' or whatever, if Roma are changing the deal or keep adding things on that are unreasonable, then it's not all our fault. With the uncertainty over Conte's future + Zaniolo being a fair bit of a risk in general and not yet setting the world alight, if Roma re making the deal more and more difficult then it's not the worst thing in the world if we're backing away or pursuing other deals.

We have heard this many, many, many, many times though.

Then he should be a leader and make a decision to get rid now (or actually weeks ago if Herc is correct). Not let this linger until the summer.

Sometimes you have to just accept that you need to stump up and back the manager though. We can’t always hide behind it being someone else’s fault which is our go to

It's not just that though is it. Lets say they are shifting the goalposts...... This is a player Conte has wanted since early last Summer, why are we discovering new problems in the last week of January?

That's why I talked about the other ITK we're getting of Conte not being sure if he's staying too. Besides, my point was it wasn't all out fault. That doesn't mean we have no blame at all. We all know there's a lot more we could do. Our ITKs say there's a lot more we can do. We certainly do carry a lot of the fault. I was just saying that it's not like it's 100% on us. And with ITK saying the manager isn't sure he's gonna stay and in general with a player like Zaniolo who many on here are indifferent about and seemingly are primarily behind just because he's a Conte target... if Conte may not be here in 6 months but the Zaniolo clauses mean Zaniolo will be an obligation to pay and stay longer than Conte... it's not the dumbest thing in the world to be a little cautious about the deal.

Besides, another thread for another day but we always go in circle what 'backing the manager' even looks like. I think many agreed we did good over the summer but that didn't translate at the start of the season. But we'd say he was backed then. And ITK says whilst things are difficult, we're still looking like getting Porro and Danjuma which on paper are decent additions.

I agree with this so much.
Many jobs are hard. There are many things that shift. But leaders are only ever judged on one thing. Results, they get what needs to be done, done. The good leaders are proactive and decisive.
So we can relive the probably true stories of woe around why things take a long time or didn’t happen “through no lack of effort and no fault of our own”. But leaders get results, the results they want

Precisely.

Hesitant, Indecisive and Second best.

And THAT is the Culture the Club shows way too often both on & off the pitch.

If Levy wants a "no risk management" job, then he's in the wrong f*ING job. Indeed, in the wrong f*ING business /industry.
But is he bought the club for £Xm and its now worth an estimated £4B I would say he is doing a bloody good job of running the whole business and so certainly in the right industry?

The question is... let's say CL is worth £80m a year, so does he twist and invest £60m or does he stick and limit spending. Interesting decision for the business

On the latest ITK, Conte is no fool and clearly has the measure of Levy etc but this ongoing drama is no good for the stability within the club.
