We buy and sell players because we can.
Which is why Dos Santos, JJ and Bentley are still with us.
And why Saha and Nelsen arrived in January.
What's strategy got to do with it?

I would certainly sign Joe Allen if he's available. If we can.

Most laughed at the mention of Joe Alen on here a couple of months back. Sure, he's not Modric but he's done a fuckton more in the prem at 21 than Modric ever had. Will he be another Modric type - that influential, that skillful? Maybe not but there's a reasonable possibility that he could become one or at least on a comparable level.

18 months to go yet until he reaches the age Modric was when he joined us. At his age, in the right club and caoching environment he could improve a hell of a lot.

EDIT: I'm an illiterate plum.

It is fucking hard proving your worth in the Premiership when you're not in it.

Emile Heskey has done a fuckload more than Lionel Messi, Pele and Maradona in the Prem, come to think of it.

How much would you say Joe Allen is worth?
Busy little CM. Good passer, composed, still very young. £8m-£10m I guess? Although he is prem proven (albeit just a season) so there'll likely be a bit of a premium added.

Still, we'd need to sell Modric first before we even started thinking of his replacement. It's going to be hard whenever it happens but I'm not convinced the only way to replace Modric is with a like player. A tweek of the system and we could be almost, if not as strong as we are with him in the team. Just changes the focus and style of the team a smidge, imo.

As I said, it was tongue in cheek. Something to consider though. He has been very impressive and is 18 months younger than Modric was when he first played in the prem. That's not to say Allen is as good as Modric is - he plainly isn't. But in another 18 months, in the right team he might have imporved considerably. And even then Modric has come on these last 3or 4 yrs further still.

It's not utterly outrageous to think that in 5 yrs time Joe Allen at 26 could be mentioned in the same breath as Modric now in terms of talent. Course, he could be shit also.

Totally agree, but is Harry capable of devising something else?

I'd love to have Allen at Spurs. I've got a feeling he's gonna be a star. He's already quality and will get much better. We should be all over him.

8-10m for Joe Allen would be an obscene bargain. Worth more than double that. Will one day be bought for three times that.

I'd be mortified if he went to Arsenal. Them getting Oxlade-Chambo and Allen would be as confusing as that time in the Calypso Club, Bangkok when I saw the most beautiful woman imaginable drop her leotard to display the most enormous... actually, that's probably enough of that story.

Hope so. If we just try to replace Modric with THudd (much as I think he can offer something valuable to the squd, sto giggling BC) or something and stick to the same system, the difference will be marked and detrimental, imo.

Yay, the Joe Allen appreciation club grows stronger with each day. Soon, soon....

But yes, maybe undervalued him in today's market. Swansea aren't exactly rich but they're not in debt or anything and he's a local lad I think. Might not be so easy to just waft any old offer under their noses for him.

Now watch as assnal get him for £5m + Yossi Benayoun.

I know, was just on the wind up. Know what you mean.

He looks a decent player from what I've seen, and also a testament to Rodgers coaching and style that has allowed him to flourish.
